Actually, I was planning to include the German Air Force’s reports and technical analyses from that era as well, but unfortunately, the archive website went under maintenance right while I was doing my research. I’ll be back with a much more detailed report soon, but still, it’s just going to get rejected by people who are simply afraid they won’t be able to get easy kills anymore.

its honestly kinda sad how far down its gone from the first dev server, one strafe from .50s is more than enough to light all 3 B29s in formation on fire. these arent even air belts, this is default.

If the B-17 was hit by Flak at bombing altitude (over 6,000 m), it necessarily had to be from heavy artillery, at least 88 mm. All those damage should correspond to that class of calibers.
From what can be seen on the B-17, you could blow away almost the entire rear half of the wing without it snapping off, since the rear spar is located nearly 2 meters behind the leading edge. Neither the shrapnel nor the blast wave seem to have a critical destructive effect on the spar, likely due to its truss design, which prevented pressure confinement (blast “passes through” without transferring all of its energy to the component).

I agree with what you’re saying; in fact, the German air force’s analysis of wrecks and captured aircraft between 1940 and 1945 shows that they pointed this out as well. Could you please share the links and sources of the photos you posted?
Here is Korean Air Lines 902 after crashing landing on a frozen lake in Karelia. It was hit by an R-60 in the left wing by an Su-15. It tore off the wingtip and destroyed one engine which sent debris into the fuselage that killed two passengers and caused rapid decompression. Accounts differ on the time it took the plane to land after being hit. The Soviets claim KAL 902 took 40 minutes to find an area to land, passengers claim it took an hour and 40 minutes.

this actually brings up a great point too for all the people talking about how “unrealistic” it is for bombers to tank missiles, wasnt the B52 infamous for tanking multiple SAM hits over its lifetime and still flying perfectly fine

I know there was the B-52 that survived an AGM-88 to the tail. I can’t find photos but apparently several B-52’s survived S-75 hits in Vietnam. 55-0074 apparently took three hits and returned to base.

Additionally, I would like to point out that the 5th image in the report I shared was taken after two B-17s collided on their way back from a mission and made an emergency landing; this further demonstrates the durability of this aircraft.
I agree. I think the structure of all aircraft needs to be improved. Bf 109 shooting down a Hurricane over Malta.
