Changes to Bomber Survivability Feedback and Discussion

Those are =weak= hits from =weak= italian gun on a realistic B-17 DM, yeeeeeeeeeeeah.

What’s the issue here?

First one was destroyed almost instantly
The next two were destroyed when all their engines were taken out.

There are several issues.

  1. Missiles like IR are bugged because they aim for the centre of the plane instead of the engines. However I still managed to destroy or cripple a bomber with almost every missile.

  2. You’re not hitting the engine, you’re hitting the back of the engine nacelle and the explosive doesn’t have enough power to reach the front where the engine is. Same with wings, people are hitting the back of wings and wondering why it does little damage to the spar at the front of the wing

  3. Also another important issue is people are testing weapons against the planes in the test drive. These planes are bugged because they fly perfectly fine with all their control surfaces destroyed. Try it in the mission editor and you’ll get better results.

  4. Damage seems inconsistent with certain aircraft. For example the BR 1.7 B-10B bomber is pretty much invincible, even shrugging off direct missile hits.

  5. Gaijin needs to make a more detailed damage model. Currently you hit a plane’s wing and either it’s not broke or the entire thing snaps off.

My report was declined. So the Ki-109 is probably just never going to get brought in line with the bombers its based on since ik its at the bottom of everyone else’s priority list.

Another Norbangl take ig

Even if it was realistic, who gains gameplay wise? Bombers. that’s it. They represent 1/4 MAX of an ARB lobby. Only in prop and very early jet gameplay. which mean 3/4 of the lobby will see it’s gameplay worsen. You now have 4 players that can decide to go afk in space and on some matches you’ll just loose on tickets.

It didn’t count even as critical hits?

Bruh, as if those “3/4” are the one who actively and explicitly hunt bombers. Lets not kid ourself - absolute most fighters will just fly into the center of map, form a furball, die and quit to queue up to do the same thing another dozen or so times

And dont bring ticket bleed and space climbers because they will be dealt the same manner as regular space climbers and home airfield campers - by doing some CAS (if anything longer matches benefit everyone - more reward, cause of them being time to match length)

Because it’s a test drive? It doesn’t show severe and crit damage because those are mechanics for determining score in matches. I even tested it in the live server. Blowing both wings off an I-153 only gave me a ‘hit’.

There’s a benefit and a problem to it in my opinion.

The plus is that most people will most likely stop tunnel visioning on bombers because they’re no longer free kills. This means you won’t have half your team abandoning their altitude to chase a single bomber and should improve team play.

The con however is that people who do chase bombers, will probably shoot out all the engines on one and then continue to shoot at it and use up all their ammo even though the thing is already more or less dead.

They became too damaged, lost speed and altitude, then crash landed in most cases. War Thunder’s terrible aircraft damage system has convinced everyone that planes will always explode or break apart when hit. Even modern missiles don’t usually blow modern aircraft into pieces.

Imagine if ground battles used a similar damage system to air where you could shoot a Tiger with a 45mm and it gets destroyed after three hits, then Gaijin switches to the realistic damage we have today. You’d have players shooting a Tiger in the front with a 45mm fifty times then wondering why they haven’t destroyed it.

That is exactly what should happen, the shackelton egines from one side are on fire and out, so it will crash. Once again, showing the DM is now corrected

Not the bomber’s fault most fighter players dont know how to play. It is the bomber player’s fault to have loaded into a match where the bomber gameplay doesn’t fit the gamemode design.

that’s my point. On some maps you CANNOT win the match on tickets because you dont get enough ground targets or there’s an inbalance. And I’m sorry, I dont want to spent 25mins in an unwinnable match just turning around the map because one bomber is now unkillable and in space. Even if it doubles my rp and sl gain. I prefer starting another match. And competitive players (alot of the more OG pilots), players that play for stats now have another unbeatable win condition , same as when AI would drain tickets on their own, now a bomber on some maps can just go to space and his team won.

If you don’t want to play, J out and go for another match

Yeah so I can lose a match because I killed the entire ennemy team but 2 bombers remain and I should just J out and go for another match? Amazing.

Whats funny is most of these videos showcasing bombers damage model is in test flights, where the “severe damage” isnt enabled, most of these clips would trigger that and youd get rewarded for the kill even if the bombers takes awhile to finally crash

Edit: Saw your following posts and you already explained that, hit the nail on the head man, thats exactly whats going on

Idk bro ground pound a bit, get more rp/sl while also winning on tickets, unwind after carrying so hard

You simply dosn’t want to play. There are planes made to hunt bombers, if yours isn’t one, unlucky, but usually nobody climbs further than 6k meters and are easily hunted by almost any fighter.

You’re right, it isnt the bombers faul;t for being tanky now, so dont punish them for the lack of skill on the fighters part, this topic is focusing on their damage models, their role in a match does need to be adjusted but that is a conversation for another time, another thread
