It was pretty easy to set bombers on fire by test flying them and spawning them in the “Enemy Air Defence Area”
Usually the fire either burned for what feels like an eternity without dealing any meaningful damage or it deal barely enough damage to disable controls after a while and this always involved further tanking further hits over time.
If you’d actually READ what the pilot said you’d know
Gszabi’s datamines have those answers

I dont read japanese, id have to use an ai to translate and that makes the information wrong according to you guys, so why bother lol
It depends heavily on the the exact bullet. HE rounds are mostly useless as they don’t have enough blast effect to allow for fires (minimum 600 grams) and their fragmentation is too weak to pierce the new fuel tank armor.
However, with AP rounds, even non-incendiary, it should be a cake-walk.
Does this look like japanese to you?
I remembered I had a scanned copy of Famous Airplanes Of The World: Ki-61 on my computer. There’s a section outlining its use against the B-29 which is very relevant here.
It has been translated. It’s not perfect but still perfectly possible to understand.
And a photo of a pilot that has shot down several B-29s with this plane - apparently he was the instructor of the pilot providing the above testimony.
These are Ki-61-I Hei and Tei models being used, which had just two 20mm cannons and two 12.7mm machineguns. And yet they were deemed EFFECTIVE in shooting down B-29s.
Also note the strategy used at night: get behind the B-29 and shoot in bursts until it is on fire. Once on fire it was certain to come down.
Currently all of this is impossible in the dev server.

As stated, gzsabi’s datamines.
By going here you can select the exact branch you want.
I even included where the damage model for planes is. In the screenshot I have the G8N1’s opened.
The belt is with Brandgranatpatrone (140g of pure incendiary mix)

Does the downed B-29 have any prior damage information? (I can’t translate the text you sent right now, sorry)

to me the problem is’nt the chance or ability to set fires. Engine fires especially are very easy to set. its that fires are nothing more than a pretty effect for all the damage they do.
A fire actually needs to damage the aircraft, which on the dev server they were not doing.

It still has a tiny bit of explosive filler (sprengkapsel), likely to activate and spread the incendiary mix across a larger area.
The Mine-incendiary round was developped a bit later so I’d imagine it replaced this earlier incendiary round though.

this is probably inpart to how short the fires burn for without any involvement (i.e EFS)

Jesus, in the big year of 2026, I’m being accused of using advanced technology because I don’t know a language 100%

Thoughts know no language buddy.
Fire damage is extremely inconsistent, even when they burn for a long time
Bombers on the dev server had too much of a durability increase, so fire tended to not deal a lot of damage
It really depends on the individual plane when it comes to how dangerous a fire actually is
From my experience, the plane with the biggest weakness to fire has to be the Wyvern lol
The German underestimated the B-17. How about F-89D. Is there any report available? FFAR has more charge than R4M.
