To single out 35mm SPAAG only is a bit wrong, why:
if caliber has more the 60-ish pen all NATO sides are vulnerable;
If caliber has more then 80-ish mm of pen most USSR designs are vulnerable;
Getting smoked from the front is a mechanics issue, not a gun/SPAAG issue.
ZSU 57-2 can kill ground better then Air, twin APHE rounds with 150mm of pen and filler.
2S6 can also get really weird kills due to the insane volume of fire it puts out.
CHN als has some nice AC SPAAG’s (PGZ09 & 04A) that have no problem killing ground stuff;
for the GepardA1 & and maybe Cheetah (NLD PRTL) they could replace APHE with FAPDS, should be a less penetrating pre-fragmented APDS to rip Air targets appart with shards instead of explosive force.
which also slightly increases the range on the rounds to 5.5km iirc.
No, i want the aphe change because it does shake up the balancing between reserve and 8.0. The whole point of it was to fix how op aphe is compared to solid shot when they should be comparable.
Idiots like you saw that it would cause tanks with aphe to no longer one shot everything if you even hit a cupola and decided to keep it as is because you like your easy win round.
Would it have fixed 35mm spaa? to an extent but even with the aphe changes i still think taking the aphe away from them would still be the best course of action.
Yea and you don’t think shaking up 1.0-8.0 in such a massive way wouldn’t cause issues? Eg churchill getting aphe has gone from mid to one of the best tanks at its br and you want that kind of shakeup for every <8.0 tank?
You idiots are the ones that lost the vote and are still crying about it years later 😂 cope and seethe. Brit main no wonder you have the most dogshit take
I don’t think so. It’s a real capability and I don’t think taking it away to force a certain role is a good idea.
If it were an IFV with the same vehicle layout and weaponry, even air target search / tracking, people wouldn’t even be suggesting this. So when the only reason for the change is “but it’s an SPAA”, I don’t think it’s right.
The fact adding aphe has turned the Churchill from something people make fun of to complaining about it should tell you everything you need to know about how good aphe is.
If you cant understand that, im sorry but maybe pick up some reading comprehension classes bud.
Its more so the fire rate, gaijins engine is notoriously bad at handling high fire rate cannons. You can see this in how dysynced the rounds are in planes and they still hit you even with <10 ping.
If people want balance this is the only way I can see it happening, not saying its the only way but i cant think of one myself that would work as well as simply remvoing the aphe and leaving them with 40 rounds of apds. It would mean giving apds to some vehicles such as the za 35, but others could be left without like the falcon and be put at a lower br like 7.7.
The siddam has been sat at 8.3 alongside the rest of these spaa for years for no other reason that it has irst as apparently that means something to gaijin. If the stats still havent given it a reason to move down i truly doubt it would effect the 35mm spaa apart from in the anti ground role which they dont even need to be involved in.
Yea no shit aphe is amazing. mayyybe you can use your 2 remaining brain cells to figure out what happens to 1.0-8.0 balance when half the tanks suddenly lose it. You’re almost there bud just a little bit more!
Take the 76 jumbo as an example. At the minute its sat at 6.3 where it CAN do really well, but its not the brest at the br and any uptier will see you quickly become the worst tank you could bring. With the changes it could be moved down to 6.0 or even lower as it would still have a potent round for side shots and centre mass shots but it would no longer be a guaranteed one shot and cupolas would no longer work as well. Thus requiring a little more skill.
This can be done for many tanks, which would require some effort no doubt to balance which gaijins allergic to. But after a couple rounds of br changes we could see the early game in a much better state than it is today as not everything would revolve around having aphe anymore.
I can see that you only play ground arcade… Im sorry but if you have to have the game tell you where to aim maybe dont go around telling others to use their brain?
So you reckon they will rebalance and do br adjustments for the entirety of 1.0-8.0 in the same update? I have a t-34 on the moon for sale for the low low price of 25k ge! Would you be interested?
True, thats why i said after a couple rounds of br changes. But this would fix a majority of issues caused by aphe rounds in game. And it wouldnt negatively effect guns like the russian 120mm as it has enough explosive mass to over pressure anyway. It would simply balance the rounds with 20g of explosive mass nuking tanks hitting a cupola which is just moronic.
Fair enough, but at that point the same would apply to any IFV with the same firerate. If those don’t get AP removed, neither should the SPAAs because War Thunder as a game should always put capability before doctrine.
The same was done to the M18 or 2S38 for example, where they are even classed by what they do best (played like light tanks) rather than being the TD and SPAA they are in reality.
I don’t agree with this either. While I’m not saying every vehicle should do everything, I think every vehicle should always be able to do something.
SPAA with secondary anti tank use are also great because they encourage players to actively use them even when not directly reacting to an air threat, allowing them to be ready before the attack. It’s the direct mirror image of IFVs with air tracking, which nobody takes issue with either.
But maybe they can split the SPAA class into two hidden types. One for vehicles with limited to no anti ground capabilities that instead gets low spawn cost and scouting, and another for vehicles that can effectively engage ground targets as well with a higher cost and no scouting.
