Changes in config.blk are overwritten and effectively erased by the game at launch

Hi guys!

I wanted to set up some sound and hangar mods but every time I save the changes on config.blk and enter the game it overwrites the file and any change I’ve made are erased. I’ve had custom localization for more than an year and now it’s messed up. Now I can’t even get my custom messages.

I’ve tried deleting the file and opening the game so it would generate a new one but it didn’t solve anything. Verify integrity of game files trough steam also didn’t work.

Thank you for your help!

hello! im experiencing the same problem and wanted to know if youve found a fix for it?

HI @Anne_Flank1 and @UlfarMar-psn
I see you two have issues with editing the config file, i might be able to help you.

Lets first start with your own changes.
I can see you tried to edit the config file to get sound mods and a custom hanger, the config for the sound mod and custom localization both work but ONLY if you put them in the right places.
These two changes in the BLK just allow you to acces two more setting options with wich your able to see more of the game its data, it does NOT allow you to actively change your hanger since that falls under a different line of code wich does not work (in short terms, the custom hanger is unstable to use and bricks your Config.BLK)

I myself use both sound mods and custom localization, I will send my config file below if you just want acces to these setting so that your able to edit a few items.
Do make sure to not mess with ANY other line of code in the config yourself since i have this optimized for all devices (windows, linux, etc)
I also got a tip for you if you are trying to mess with the Config.BLK yourself, make an folder OUTSIDE of the war thunder game folder and copy the Config.blk in there so you got a backup code.

If you got any questions about this you can just reply to my message or contact me via discord, my user on discord is striasmin.

Hi, I’m experiencing the same issue but in a different setting related to DSR and custom resolution. It’s not the first time I’ve done this, and it used to work fine just a few days ago. However, now the game seems to overwrite or not recognize the config file, even when it’s set to read-only mode.

Hey @KohleR
Your issue might relate to the fact that the config file does not recognize the resolution that you had put in the config manually.
Some resolutions are just not able to be used do to the game it’s all-round system

About it resetting itself, at launch it always checks the files and config file but sometimes it can bypass the scan wich leads to it not resetting itself.
The main issue is that the game files itself can’t show in that resolution in a stable way.

I’ve been using manual resolution settings for the past seven years with custom settings.
I generally use two files: one for 5K resolution ultrawide and another for 6K ultrawide for screenshot purposes (to avoid the nvidia app).

However, this issue has only appeared since the last WT update a few days ago.

I ruled out nvidia driver update since it was installed well before the problem started and any other windows updates seem too old to cause changes, so it likely points to an issue on the WT client side.

I’ll conduct further tests to determine if the issue is on my end, but if the problem persists, I will definitely file a support ticket.

Same issue here since the update a couple days ago, all of the config.blk settings seem to work normally except for the resolution line when using one that isn’t recognized by the game launcher itself. Haven’t been able to find a fix or anything that even remotely points to one unfortunately.
