The IRON FIST APS completly stopped my BTA-4 APFSDS round four time in a row, not only reduced the pen but completly detroyed the round even when fired on weakspots.
Do anyone encountered this problem before ?
Gaijin should nerf the APS, reducing the stopping power of the IRON FIST or reducing the velocity that it can intercept
The British APS should not be able to eat APFSDS rounds, and it is unrealistic for any Western APS to work like that in-game. Interceptors and sensors simply do not have the reaction time, detection resolution, or energy to meaningfully stop a 1,500+ m/s long rod. If a system is claiming to โstop dartsโ in the game, that is a gameplay choice, not realistic modeling.
As for Israeli systems, yes, some vendors have claimed their APS can defeat certain high velocity threats in very specific scenarios; however, in real life even the best APS would only be able to upset or fragment some suboptimal kinetic hits under narrow conditions, not reliably stop full-velocity APFSDS fired at normal engagement ranges. The physics are brutal: closing speed, tiny radar return of a dart, and enormous kinetic energy make true interception extremely unlikely.
TL;DR: British APS should not counter APFSDS, and the claim that any APS routinely stops long rod darts is highly dubious. If the game models otherwise, that is a balance or design decision, not realism.
Good question, what I meant by โWestern APSโ was systems like Trophy, Iron Fist, and Quick Kill, which were all designed around defeating chemical energy munitions (RPGs, ATGMs, HEAT rounds). None of them were engineered to reliably stop kinetic penetrators such as APFSDS they simply donโt have the sensor precision or reaction time to handle a dart traveling at 1,600+ m/s.
Now, Eastern APS systems (like Russiaโs Afghanit or older Drozd/Arena) have claimed some degree of capability against kinetic threats, but thatโs mostly theoretical or propaganda-level speculation. The radar resolution, computational latency, and explosive countermeasure output required to stop or even meaningfully deflect an APFSDS are beyond whatโs been proven to work in the field.
So in short:
Western APS: focuses on stopping shaped charges (HEAT, ATGM).
Eastern APS: occasionally claims APFSDS defense, but thereโs no solid evidence of it ever happening in combat.
In real life, both sidesโ systems would struggle enormously against modern kinetic rounds. What happens in War Thunder is just Gaijin taking some creative liberty.
EDIT: btw an Winter coat APS saved my life in real life combat ^_^
