Challenger 3 MBT - Technical Data and Discussion

I know it, but still, keeping things like driver weakspot and giant lfp (we will see how EPSOM will preform) limits its usage in scenarios where hull is exposed.

To be fair, that’s hardly a weakspot in real life hahah

Remember that, in real life, there’s no “down the barrel” aim, pixel hunting and these tanks are meant to fight from 1,000-3,000m away, not peeking around corners in a city, hahahah.

Yeah, while I think the driver viewport is hardly a weakspot, the LFP definitely is.

That being said, CR3’s LFP weakspot will be smaller, since the overlapping UFP is fitted with a stronger composition!

Yea i know that, and i know in scenario where hull down support doctrine takes place it will not be a problem. Problems will arise when the tank will be forced to move and support the ground units up close

A guy with RPG-7 hiding in window thinks differently.
Yes yes urban combat. The tank is not designed for it, but there is a chance it will be forced to take part in one.
That is where DL2 packages came in. Cr3 will have EPSOM, so it should be protected in some degree, but driver port will stay the same, unless they add a big chunk on ufp, and they will not as hatch opens outside.

I like the turret front and sides, but the roof, that is ugly af, not to mention a shot trap, HE will have a field day

Personally I quite like the big tower with the CITV on it, on the Chally 3 ingame it lets you look over stuff which is quite nice

ok so from this photo the matlet is a straight plate with that weird shape cover on top

To be fair the viewport is recessed, so you’ll only have the angle to hit it if you’re more or less directly in front of the tank, otherwise the hull armour starts to obscure it. Even if the turret is pointed elsewhere the driver will have his own thermal camera/overlay, and the loader hatch still has an MG mount.

If you’re firing from an elevated position then it’ll be obscured by the mantlet, and you’ll probably have a much easier time hitting the much larger turret roof

Jesus Christ man, you can’t just post porn on here.

And here’s an ever so slightly different angle

Is the hole in the rear corner here for the APS sensors? Or will it be for something else?

It gives a vibe of a good place for a sensor, but what it will be we will have to learn in the future

probably a LWS or somthing, the APS is probably going to be part of external armour kits (like the TES or OES kits) akin to trophy intergration on the Abrams, put on and taken off as needed

I wonder how the crew feels about loosing so much stowage space, I guess the logic is that low obserablity to radar doesn’t matter much anymore so they can go back to external racks?

I like how they throw shade at CR2 to hype up CR3
“Challenger 3 is going to be a world-class battle tank, unlike Challenger 2”
“Going from CR2 to CR3 is like going from Conkers to having an Xbox”

nah its more like playing conkers with an xbox since we kept the same hull…

I wonder what it will look like with its addon armour?

Good to see new roof armour (with simillar layout after all). It seems to be a lot thicker tho. Wonder if it’s spaced steel or some composite…?
