Challenger 3 MBT - Technical Data and Discussion

Here’s the thing - Relikt hasn’t even been doing all that good of a job ‘in that Eastern European conflict that shall not be named’ and it isn’t even up against the latest NATO darts. NONE of the Russian Heavy ERA actually seems to do all that good of a job when actually shot at in an actual shooting war.

If I was in charge of balancing I’d nerf the living crap out of it. Partly to reflect real-life observations and partly just to wind up RuMains.

I’d call it the ‘Crazed Otter Tax’ whereby I just randomly and arbitrarily pluck numbers out of thin air, make stuff up as I go along when it means I can whack a vehicle into the game and… wait a minute - why aren’t I employed by Gaijin already to do this stuff?!

Russia get a post 2020 vehicle 7 updates in a row. The strongest SPAA for defeating incoming missiles/bombs, the strongest ERA, the strongest light tank, the strongest “tank destroyer” and the strongest CAS with the KH-38MT (that doesn’t exist and a skilled user can take off 10ft, land straight away and still get kills cause gaijin hasnt fixed airfield missile spamming), and Gaijin are now folding to the idea of a round that is specifically made to defeat the armour of the country they have been favouring for all this time. It wont get accepted; I heavily doubt it. It would go against everything they have done at top tier thus far.

“not enough information”

:P

I’ll put this here. This references CHARM3 and it’s specific requirements to penetrate T-80U AFTER interactions with ERA. E.g. Defeating K5 very much part of the job description.

From Operational Requirement (DEFE 71/1418)

Document (Unclassified) is DEFE 71/1418 held at Kew

bttr on X: “A few more details regarding British values and the L27 CHARM 3 APFSDS. The main requirement for CHARM 3 was to defeat the T-80U tank with Kontakt-5 ERA at a range of 2,000 metres. This was believed to represent a target providing ca. 670 mm of RHAE worth of protection. https://t.co/jGHxsqwrIe” / X

I believe Fireball may have got these documents originally

@Fireball_2020 Am I correct?

Well surely it’s a good stick with which to beat Gaijin over the head with. Especially now they’ve let the genie out of the bottle with the anti-ERA properties on other rounds.

‘T-80U with KE sensitive Explosive Reactive Armour (ERA)’ can only be a T-80U with K5.

I’d say that’s pretty good evidence that L27 was designed with defeating ERA in mind (otherwise - why mention it in the specs?). Not only that - but punching through K5 was a baseline that the documents state was EXCEEDED.

It didn’t just defeat K5 and then the T-80U armour underneath - it did so convincingly and exceedingly.

Secondary source below:

CAT-UXO - 120mm l27 projectile

" [L27], also known as [CHARM 3] (CHallenger ARMament 3), features a longer penetrator made of DU to defeat complex armour arrays and advanced forms of Explosive-Reactive-Armour (ERA)."

These are the peeps who probably know more about munitions than the rest of us (including the devs) combined.

Do we have examples, photos, videos? Of non abandoned ones who’ve had their bags stripped and left with rubber being perforated because if that can be organized that’s good evidence imo.
