Thanks that’s got some cool info in it

Unfortunately there it does seem to state it is remaining at 1200hp. However, its an article written by a journalist, not a primary source, so we will still have to see.

thxx lots, and ya just like kobes said, pretty interesting the journalist states 1200hp, tho at this point even babcock confirmed its 1500hp

Well, Babcock used wikipedia as their source for that unfortunately lol, but they did still state 1500hp that is true

Overall, this dosen’t change much, its another article stating 1200hp of which we have many

well, while true, i still believe babcock wouldnt put a number that wasnt related to their own product, even more considering its a pretty big project with the military so even if it seems like a “wikipedia” source they wouldnt put a number that is not related to their actual product that they are actively working on

I mean I have my own guesstimations as well but you have no way to substantiate that claim.

They had the real engine right there… but used google as a source…

You could be right, but I guess the simple answer is we just don’t know yet

Its been a while since I paid attention to the CR3 engine stuff. Is it getting an upgrade or not? I thought that was canceled

It’s getting upgraded to a new engine standard, but in terms of the horsepower, we still don’t know for sure

Ah… Thank you

I mean it’s not hard? I am making some assumptions, but the 2A7 armour scheme is basically the same as the 2A5, with minor upgrades to the hull, so a 1995 design, Challenger 3’s armour is at least 20-25 years newer, the 2A8 is going to be better only because it’ll actually have a APS, which I doubt we’ll see for CR3 in the large scale

It is because no matter how many asumptions we make, we just don´t have any source indicating armor capabilities, much less values, of any Leopard newer than STRV-122. Of course we can guesstimate but that goes with not making grand statements as if we actually had concrete numbers.

We do gajin just doesnt accwpt them

2a7v best statements from the leopard bible is that 2a7V has hull lvl armor equal to the arrowhead turret.

Gajin uses the bible everywhere but prefers 30 year old swedishbtest data. Figure.

2a7V got new internal as well the add on armor plates.

2a8 is currently not stated to have received new intwenal armor. Only the APS system

Interesting they mention that 1500hp would require a cooling upgrade and they say it doesnt have but photos of the Challenger 3s engine show that the cooling is definitely upgraded

Bit of a contradiction

2A7s and other Leopard variants are also being upgraded with APS across several different users, to bring them to the combat capability of the 2A8s that these nations are ordering to replace numbers of older Leopard 2s. Germany has already received a number of Leopard 2A7A1 with EuroTrophy, that will operate alongside their A8s

The fundamental difference with all the A8s being ordered is only that they are entirely new-built tanks with many of the armour improvements being made integral to the hull, rather than scabbed on to what would mostly have been built as an A4 or earlier back in the 80s or 90s (apart from Spanish, Swedish and Greek tanks built as improved A5/A6). So it’s more of a structural improvement than a protection improvement over A5/A6/A7.
Hungary’s (and IIRC Qatar’s) A7 hulls are this kind of newly-built pattern that will be used for A8, so in this instance do only differ from the A8 in terms of the APS installation.

So in effect, if we’re lining up where Challenger 3 is analogous to the Leopard 2A7 or 2A8, it’s more of the 2A7A1, in that it has an APS and armour improvements on the hull, but they’re all scabbed on to a hull built more than 20 years ago, rather than being integral to a new hull.

Some additional high quality Challenger 3 photos. There is also a QR code which may provide more info, it scans but I didn’t find anything yet, despite the fact it states there it should have more information. If anyone else wants to have a look I would appreciate it.

god are they repeating the increased lethality part often

Only part of the CR2 that really lags behind significantly
