History:
Challenger 2E was a modification made by Vickers to a Challenger 2 in an attempt to sell it abroad. The previous version of Challenger 2E took part in Greek tank trials, but failed to gain any traction. With that Vickers decided to change things a little, and after modifications, they showcased a new and final version of Challenger 2E in 1999 during the DSEI taking place in Chertsey.
This camouflage was first seen in 1999 when the tank was placed at the Vickers Defense Systems stall during during DSEI exhibition taking place in Chertsey. While it bears resemblance to the camouflage that the tank wore during Greek trials, it is not the same. It was clear that sales of Challenger 2E were not going to take place in the UK, that is why Vickers decided to paint the new and improved variant with MERDC Winter Verdant style camouflage. This act was a slight nod to its potential customers, that is, European countries, and USA forces stationed in Europe. Ultimately the Challenger 2E failed to gain any traction, and the project was terminated.
