The comparable mbt technically should be 2a5/6 and M1a2.

You’re being extremely disingenious with that…
CR1 was comparable to leopard 2 and M1 entry dates.
As it entered service in 1983 with the M1

M1a1 was 1986 i believe.

Leopard 2a5 - 1998 with very first upgrades being in 1995 so the 2a6 which is comparable to the later TES models of CR2

M1A2 - service entry date 1992 which is far earlier.

Though “Abrams” is rather misleading as the CR2 equivalent is the M1A2 and not M1A1 that came out in 1980. M1A2 was about the same time as the CR2.

Same is largely true for the Leopard 2 as well.

Challenger 1 entered service in 1983 and is the equivalent to both the earliest Abrams and Leopard 2.

With the CR2 as a direct equivalent to the Leopard 2A6 and the M1A2

So it’s more like

Challenger 2

1998

Leopard 2A6

2007

M1A2

1993 or 1997 depending on which phase is more comparative

Challenger 2 (and 3) are much more like the differences between M1a1 abrams and its later variants IMO which would bring it to 1983

If you disagree then the most recent variants are
Abrams Sep V3 which is 2017
Leopard 2a7 which is 2014
Challenger 2 is 1998 with no notable service variant change.

Its the oldest variant of a modern MBT in service

No im not counting russian T64 rehashes as a modern tank

In my defence, my original comment was referring to the comment that Challenger 2 as one of the oldest gen 3 MBTs, which it isn’t (Challenger 1 is though).

Leopard 2a7 which is 2014

Actually the most recent variant is the A7A1 which entered service October last year, and before that the A7V in 2021.

Last I checked there were also some A5s still in service, but they are used in a training/OPFOR role so not frontline service per se.

Also what about the Challenger 2F and TES? Are these not official variants of the CR2?

Desert warrior would be much better if it had the round it was initially announced with.

The rounds it has now are just… awful. They seem to generate sod all spall.

Sadly it’s probably stuck in the giant, gaping hole in gaijins system. Vehicle is crap which means no one plays it which means its stats don’t show anything wrong as hardly anyone plays it.

It’s the flaw which afflicts lots of vehicles sadly.
