Challenger 2 MBT - Technical data and Discussion (Part 1)

200mm?

Block has 320 mm per game

Also Chobham and Dorchester are used however they please, so it is hard to tell what is what
Even Royal hussars mistake it

Ignoring the fact that internal armour is called DL1 and external DL2, but they also ignore that.

Why would they put first gen in it though? it offers less protection and they probably stopped making it after the challenger 1 because it logistically makes no sense to be making an inferior product right?

yeah i thing the latter is the case, in the chally 2 tankograd its only refered as a “new passive armour element”

btw I noticed Gaijin modeled the turret cheeks of the challenger 2 to have quite large gaps without NERA, is that just some Gaijin shenanigans or is that really how it is?

take a guess

is it some Gaijin BS? that’s what I think it is.

I mean for sure UK would create such obvous weakspots in HULL DOWN focused tank

Personally I think they stripped some composite inserts out of a bunch of CR1 in storage. I saw a MoD scrap list the other day, if you can find 2007/2008 and see them scrap a bunch of CR1 turrets then you might be able to draw some conclusions…

also the drivers hatch area is a HUGE weak spot even though it seems like it shouldn’t be, it’s about 60mm(55 because it’s cast) and sloped at around the same angle that the UPF of the Abrams is, yet it’s less effective instead of more?

It also refers to Varma as chobham

VARMA is Chobham, as it originates from Cr1

is anyone here willing to help me spade the challenger 2F?

yes

Yes in around 10 min

thank you, it’s been a pain, I’ll friend you guys from here

Ok i will be there in maybe 20 minutes max

Oh god a death squad

Yeah, can’t wait to die over and over :)

do I go for the 3TD first or the 2E?

2E imo
3 doesnt change much, and 2E has better mobility
