Challenger 2 MBT - Technical data and Discussion (Part 1)

I mean, we know it explodes. We’re trying to find under what conditions.

Well, for sure it depends on what hits it. Dart vs 20kg of explosive. From what i read the hesh does not explode unless it is paired with charge and fiered. How does it work, i have no idea

Here’s a first hand account of what caused that explosion:

From what I can see, RDX is already quite insensitive (in comparison to TNT). Here’s some boffin stuff.

I don’t understand any of this.

Report about an ammunition explosion, might be helpful or interesting.

iirc it was an issue with the gun and not with ammo. The only ammo that detonated was the round inside the breach, all the other rounds were not touched in their stowage bins.

No ammo detonated in that incident because it was all L32A6 SH/P and L29A1 DS/T practice rounds, which simulate the weight and function of HESH/FIN and the SH/P are as I understand full of concrete. The bag charge went off with no obturator fitted, looks like it ignited several other improperly stored charges.

i forgor about practice round lol

I believe it was only the charge in the breach that exploded and one on the floor, the others did not because the storage bins only had exterior burns and because they are inert…

is the bag charge even modelled in game? if its not im just sending all this and it doesnt matter…

Either way the report is interesting and has some useful diagrams and interior pictures.

if they choose to do this, we must also ask for a flak jacket mod :)
(they will not give it to anybody)

Source for adding it? my profile picture

I mean, I can confirm that we wore body armour in CR2. In about 2018 we ditched the crewguard helmets and switched to the Virtus helmets and over-helmet headsets instead of the crewguard-compatible ones.

if we cant get spall liners on the challenger 1’s and challenger 3 we can always fall back on asking for this, i doubt they will add it to the challenger 2 because we already have liners

Just watching a vid about the CR2.

Albeit not a documentary, just something made by an enthusiast, it mentions the CR2 has an early warning system for missiles (MAWS?)

Anyone have info on this?
I’m not convinced.

Some testing was apparently done with MUSS and ROSY.

Cheers.

The chally in the second link looks cursed.

Apart from anything else going back to the Castlemartin report it makes specific reference to the loader removing ECBA, (Enhanced Combat Body Armour) which is supposed to protect the crew against fragments and small arms projectiles.

That is not about the Medusa. First time hearing Cr2 has that type of device
