They both can yes. But having them both be 8.7 while the mk 5 is so much better doesn’t really make much sense to me. But again this is Gaijin. The same people who do these things.

Please no I tried to forget the chieftain designations lmao

Why did they think installing a 585 HP engine on a 53 tonne MBT was a good idea lol, even with 650 HP it’s underpowered. Could be a good 8.3 though.

Mk 3 was a good 8.3. The mk 1 would have to be 8.0 for it to do anything.

Because we are the only nation that stuck with the multi fuel engine. Its a shame we didnt continue with our gas turbine idea as that would have been an amazing chieftain in game. but perhaps no irl… But they kinda did shoot themselves in the foot by giving the contract to leyland of all people.

You never, ever, go full Leyland.

Not even once.

You might think you can handle it, how bad could it be after all, but before you know it you’re begging on the streets for just one more cylinder liner.

If NATO hadn’t been such silly daft pen pushers, maybe they’d have realised precisely no one wanted a multifuel solution because it was garbage.

Imagine if we actually got the 44ton tank they incisions without it becoming the over weight and bloated corpse of a tank it became. Would have been a fast, slick tank with well sloped armour and gun…… basically how it goes for Britain, have this amazing concept but it gets fcked over by politics (tsr2 and challenger with the Saudis) or doctrine (chieftain). Just give a man in a shed a pencil and some paper and let him at it with a good supply of tea and biscuits. If we can make an online 6 out of two inline 4s I think we can manage a tank or two.

Chieftain wasn’t shafted by doctrine, unless you consider the doctrine (fighting a defensive war, engaging from pre-built/constructed defensive positions, fighting multiple delaying actions) to be completely wrong.

It was definitely shafted by Leyland though, that’s in disputable.

i was going to say polotics again lol, due to nato saying they wanted an every fuel engine just for them to turn around and use a turbo diesel anyway. We then got stuck with a 2 stroke v6 which had less horse power than the centurions meteor engine while being twice the weight.

I’ll let everyone make of that what they will…
