I dont think a APC-FSDS would really do much tbh, especially when its intended target is an ERA covered cold war relic
You’d get better angle performance against a conventional plate by just having the extra 100-150mm of penetrator length
Longer rods are better at penetrating that is true. Making it more stubby does go against that
L26A1 did enter service quite a few years after the T80U did with K5, it’s not entirely unreasonable to believe the tip was added to attempt to deal with it, even if it could not fully penetrate the T80U frontally (Hence why L27A1 was developed)
Thick/Stubby penetrators are also less impacted by ERA as they have a stronger construction, according to Janes this is at least part of what gives L27A1 it’s anti-ERA properties.
Sadly gaijin despite Janes as a source
why is this?
I mean it just makes logical sense. A thicker and stubbier penetrator is less prone to bending and shattering.
They claim the information they provide is unreliable, which im sure can be true sometimes, but this is the case for any source
more thickness (i dont want to cause any inuendos so im careful with wording) will help with penetrating armour as its going to be less brittle true.
also janes not being seen as reliable, but still using USSR documents is honestly wild
thats the case for everything though so a bit of a stupid reason
I’ve been convinced that you could make a malicious bug report on the CR3 TD and argue that the tank doesn’t have turret composite (Its a test bed excuse therefor it doesn’t have xyz) and it would nearly instantaneously get turret composites removed.
Given Gaijins absurd reluctance to give NATO tanks any of their “unique characteristics”
Abrams - V3 Hull Armour / Neck protection
Challengers - TES ERA / Ready Rack / L27 performance / Spall Liners / Mantlet / Mobility
Type 10 - Proper Mobility / Reload (i know its game balance factor)
Leopards - 2A7 Hull Armour
Leclercs - External Fuel Tanks / OFL F2 / Reload / Proper Mobility
Ariete - “Heavy Air” War Kit
Merkava - Proper Armour
ZTZ/WZ - Spall Liners / Proper Models / Gun Mantlet
Im know im probably missing alot of stuff for other tanks, I don’t follow some nations as much as others. Or im just vastly out of the loop.
The choice has always seemed obvious to the players. We would rather have good and unique tanks that are balanced by BR. But instead Gaijin has been for years atp - going the route of Copy and Paste the few usable good vehicles ie Leopards, Abrams, T80s to every nation. Now every tech tree feels so similar. The incentives to actually play UK, China, Israel, France, Italy, Japan have all been flattened by the infestation of Abrams/T80/Leopards. I just want to play something interesting, I would play and grind other nations to play something interesting not something that I’ve already played.
The Challenger 2s currently have quite a funny bug on the dev server.
If you reach your maximum reverse speed (38kph), the tank will suddenly unlock some strange kind of super acceleration from it.
To do this you must first achieve 38kph in reverse, then it feels like you get like 5000 horsepower and can just climb any slope at 38kph in reverse. You will maintain 38kph basically no matter what you do, if you lose your speed you will almost instantly regain it.
It does not work when going forward.
This is either their code breaking, or I think it’s more likely they’ve been messing with the transmission for the regenerative steering these they promised and they broke something.
After testing the M1A2, Leopard 2, Oplot-M appear to do the same - It seems all vehicles are affected.
It also works on the Scimitar, which has a 86kph reverse speed, giving some pretty hilarious results. The vehicles seem to get stuck at maximum RPM in their top reverse gear at any speed.
+1 lets keep this as a feature.
jokes aside im annoyed i dont have access still and i wanna see it
Add Type 10 to the list
lore accurate type 10
Hmm no response to the DM53 yet.
Gonna see if we even gotta get a response.
With the 10 sources a bit more work to go trough
Girls Und Panzer aaah physics
I for one am starting to believe War Thunder is a marketing lie
according to IDR 1990, a senior RO member said the “stubby” round helped with ERA performance?
I wouldn’t be surprised if in reality the L26A1 could pierce the T-80U at reasonable distances, and that the L27A1 pierced the T-80U like butter.
