Challenger 2 MBT - Technical data and Discussion (Part 2)

Obviously wasn’t designed to be in tbe russian tree.

It’s in no way related to them

If Gaijin have shown one flagship policy area of bloodymindedness - it is in their portrayal of Western ERA/NERA.

Abrams, Leclerc, Leopard, CR2 - in-game they have the extra tonnes of weight thanks to the armour packages yet oddly enough none of them seem to do that much.

After all, how can decadent Westerners possibly have armour that is stronker than the finest products of the Tomsk Tractor Factory? They really do seem to live in the 1980s - where Soviet AFVs WERE a match for their Western counterparts. The problem is, it isn’t 1985. It’s 40 years later and the gap between Russian technology and everyone else has increased.

The rest of the world has moved on. Yet in War Thunder we seem to have this weird parallel universe where museum relics from the Cold War using antique technology and dodgy build-quality can best some of the latest 2020s NATO hardware.

Anyway, soapbox moment over. I’ve got to get some work done, thankfully unhindered by Gaijin chicanery!

I think we all know Ukraine was meant for the Russian tree.
They have the modernised BTRs and T-84 completed for years now.

Cool to see it in the game now though

Got a source for that ? Cause in my just over 6 years i never seen a T84 data mined up until a few months ago.

As well as this, you know i spent many years following this game religiously.
Glad they’re here now though and the Vt4 standard

The studio that does the models for them, forget who it is now they had it on their website along with the BTR 4

Both TES and QES side hull add-on armour is made up of 3 layers technically 4 layers.

Layer 1 - From the drivers side of the hull to the start if the engine bay is a 80mm composite armor backplate with 40mm RHA covering the engine bay hull side.

Layer 2 - 200mm VAMAR composite block.

Layer 3 - ASPRO HMT NERA/ERA tiles attached to the front of the VAMAR block’s.

Layer 4 - technically there is a 4th layer a thin rha cover.

With what we currently know on ASPRO-HMT and the VAMAR composite block. The side hull should be essentially immuned to all tandem warheads currently in game and at least 40mm APFSDS rounds because the VAMAR block from what we currently know is able to stop 30mm apds by itself and have around 800mm against chemical. And ASPRO HMT can stop 25mm apfsds on its own and can stop tandam warheads. So going of all that at the absolute minimum it can stop the best 40mm apfsds in game and have at least 1500mm against chemical. From all the current information and calculations and numerous bug reports on the topic.

Ahh i was just a little confused

Someday… ERC 90

I didn’t see any sources

Sooo… similar to the evidence Gaijin use for Soviet wunderwaffe ERA then. Balance restored.

So what are the sources? Are there any sources claiming 1500mm from HEAT?

I think you simply have no idea how ERA works. It’s probably a mystery to you why Relikt in bags performs worse than Relikt with plates, and why Relikt in steel boxes performs better on the turret sides, for example.

On the contrary. ERA and it’s basic function has been around since the 1970s.

However, NATO has traditionally gone for NERA which have substantial advantages over the old-style Soviet blocks. Not covering your vehicle in explosive plates that will decapitate nearby infantry if activated is a useful one…

Being consistent over time as the vehicle ages (most explosives degrade over time, either becoming less or more powerful depending on the chemistry.)

In many cases, lighter or more compact.

Allowing better placement around optics, sensors, etc. You cannot stick ERA blocks (especially heavy ERA) near anything on the tank that will be destroyed by the blocks activating. NERA is functionally inert - so collateral damage to the vehicle is much less of an issue than if your sodding great plate of steel goes off where it has been mounted at the wrong angle…

Gaijin take Russian manufacturer data as gospel but every NATO source provided is discounted as a 'Marketing Lie’or willfully misread (see the CR2 armour scheme) See the issue?

Your message is long and cluttered, but it’s pointless. I still don’t think you understand how ERA works technically, or why, for example, Kontakt-1 is worse than Relikt.

You ask for an explanation, then whinge it is too long. If anyone provides you with a source you’ll probably refuse to read it, refuse to believe it or generally not accept it.

I don’t think YOU understand how ERA works.

It isn’t some magical shield that negates any and all incoming rounds. It has been shown over the past three years to be a bit of a busted flush like pretty much every other wunderwaffe that was proclaimed as superior to that of the West.

Numbers don’t lie, after all. Check Oryx for the latest count.

So you haven’t said anything substantive. It’s just a big, empty text.

I’ll repeat myself: I don’t think you understand how ERA works and what its effectiveness depends on.

Actually, when they claim 1500mm of HEAT for one layer of ERA, that also suggests that the person doesn’t understand how it works.

Of course not, it doesn’t work anywhere in the game.
