Challenger 2 MBT - Technical data and Discussion (Part 1)

well

(vs DM53)

Was the Challenger 3’s turret always that thick, I remember it being the same as the Challenger 2 last update?

The turret right turret cheek is almost 1300mm of CE protection.

i just did a cr2 test and, well

It is better, but still far from ideal

Should be 725 KE and 1040 CE apparently

It seems a new part of the composite in the hull is also now modelled. This has improved the shoulder armour of the hull quite a lot.

Overall a really nice hull armour buff. The middle of the UFP is still only around 500mm, but the shoulders are now actually really thick.

This is modelled on all Challengers, if this isnt new im sorry to bring it up lol

I didnt have those issues with the 1500hp CR3 so its gotta be the “lack” of engine power causing those stutters

It’s got something to do with how Gaijin doesn’t realise that magical force called “torque” exists.

As someone pointed out torque isn’t modelled in game which is the issue

Still sad we have no mantlet. A better ufp dousnt mean anything if you still have a massive weakspow we’re everyone who has played the game for more than 10 minutes aims for.

I just tested the turn rate now and it’s really smooth. Granted it was with the CR2 OES, but still, really smooth, no jerking, it’s pretty nice.

About the armour, is that on the 3 TD or is it now on all CR2s? Don’t remember seeing anything about that coming in.

For me the turn is mostly smooth, janks a little (see up where is my video, 150 expert Crew).
Only 3TD

I thing the biggest issue comes from when its drops into neutral steering, thats really slow so the game doesnt 100% know how to drop it down smoothly, if the natural turn rate left to right was quicker i think the stutters would go away

how it feels when the challenger 2 can move/turn https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObyO6R9qTNo

Hopefully we hear something soon

Keep in mind that, although composition is the same, it’s more angled, both sideways and backwards!

Angle of attack against Challenger 2s is 57º, while it’s 60º for Challenger 3. This extra angling increases its strength. I am glad they fixed it.

The turret buff is only the Challenger 3, the Chally 2 is still around 720mm KE on the turret.

The hull buff is for all Challenger 2/3 variants

The sides of the glacis were always stronger than the central part in the armour viewer. This is because it counts the bulkheads of the sponsons of the fuel tanks as armor; you can test it. Pick L27A1 and shoot there. You will see the shell punch through the armor with the same ease as the rest of the hull, but stop once it goes through the fuel tank.

Still no mantlet fix even though it’s been aknowlaged for 7 months now. 5 more months ro it’s year anniversary.

That is true, but if you shoot the shoulder from a side angle you can clearly see the plate I marked with a red line stopping the shell.

You can also see its volumetric as it gives around 2000mm of protection when shot head on.

I haven’t seen this before but it may have always been there
