Shrimply a krill issue
I have noticed in this new update the challenger 1s got a power station while every other mbt doesnt have em yet -_-
I know at least the leos have had their batteries modeled for a while now, seems they’ve been hidden from ingame x-ray by gaijins spaghetti code. You can still see them in the assetviewer.
Edit: Not just hidden from x-ray, any reference to the power system’s collider has been removed from the leos damage model file. This seems to have occured last year between 2.40.0.58 and 2.44.0.21
Oh well I didn’t know that tbh. Hey at least I know now that this isn’t a challenger only thing
You may maintain indignance, I had a look and it seems all mbt’s had the power system removed from their damage models about a year ago.
The collider is still there and it shows up in xray on the asset viewer, but there’s no link in the damage model file to say “thing go boom”.
So the chally is the only mbt that can catch fire from its power system -_-
Well that’s sad I actually hoped I was wrong there ;(
The sad thing is idk if there is even a way for me to bug report it as idk how to prove that it wasn’t intended to get that or something.
Hi, I haven’t played the Challenger 1 in a while, and I’m thinking about going back to British tanks at BR 10.3. Is the CR1 still playable? I’d also like to know if the developers are fixing the tank’s bugs or leaving it broken.
Ch1 at 10.3 is probably the best atm, decent lineup and it keeps you from being uptiered to 11.7 and the hell that is the BMPTs.
They are however getting slapped with the nerf bat this major along with all other challengers. Turret basket and modules within the tank.
The Challenger 1s are great tanks, much better than the Challenger 2s tier for tier
Solid MBTs and the lineup at 10.3 is pretty versatile. Still got several artificial nerfs though which are annoying as hell to play around
Spoiler
Challenger 1 - 4 round ready rack and gen 1 thermals
Ajax - No spall liners and 6x zoom
Stormer HVM - barely works and no LMM
Stormer AD - Stinger
Fix chally 1s properly and the Mk.3 might only be a BR step below current CR2s (if they dont recieve fixes)
If it got L27A1 then it wouldn’t really be that much worse
A Challenger 2 with L26 could probably be reasonably balanced at 11.0
I’d like to see that to be honest, maybe they could add a CR2 Prototype limited to L26
its a shame how much potential the CR1 really had, it wasnt even barely 18 years old when it was retired
admittedly it could do with a lot of improvements, but nothing impossible, that would bring it up to or exceeding CR2 level
That’s exactly why the Br 10.3 appeals to me—no BMPT or similar nonsense. Plus, I think the CR1 is a really nice tank. I just wish the developers would prioritize some of these fixes; I quickly checked the forum to see what they’ve been working on. I don’t understand why the composite hull armor hasn’t been fixed yet—I don’t think it would make much of a difference.
Definitely not, this was well examined by the MOD.
Did the Challenger 1 really have worse frontal armour than the T72a? I’m looking at the stats and the T72a has around 100mm more armour in places vs Cr1. I get Cr1s bigger but it weighs 20 tonnes more than the T72 to get worse protection. Also that lower plate can’t weigh much as it’s just 70mm.
Do these values have any bearing on reality? Cr1 entered service after the T72 so I’m just confused because I thought chobham was supposed to be superior to soviet armour. I only ask because clear marketing lies have triggered me.
T-72 has a design that accommodates 3 crew members not 4. It’s much lower profile and has smaller dimensions. Of course it can weigh less? Weighing less, and being smaller itself isn’t an indication of “less armor”. If that’s the case you’d have to tell me the T-34-85 has superior armor to the lighter, smaller, shorter T-44. Which also eliminates a crew member funnily enough.
The T-72 plate is at a higher angle that’s for one. If the Challenger was heavier and smaller than the T-72 or the same size, it may be an indication of more armor. But then the question is where? Better frontally? Is the armor more spread out, or more centralized? There’s many questions needed to be asked.
Also are we talking strictly KE protection or CE protection? The Challenger I’m sure has better CE protection which makes TONS of sense as CE was the biggest threat to NATO countries at the moment. Whereas to my knowledge the Soviets prioritized KE with CE in mind.
Something coming at a later date doesn’t mean it will be better protected. That’s illogical. If that’s the case why is the Leopard 1 worse protected than the Panther Tank? Why does the Tiger II have a better lower plate armor than the Challenger? Dates being different doesn’t change protection in itself. That has no bearing on that. It is not based in logic that because something came down years later = better armor in a given area.
No Gaijin model Western composites incorrectly, we see it with NERA on other NATO tanks in game. T-72A by the time CR1 entered service was being replaced with T-72B
The Challenger 1’s hull armour depends on the time period of the vehicle.

NOTE: Lower glacis in this document refers to the lower part of the upper front plate, not the actual lower front plate.
Early Challenger 1’s (Mk.1 and Mk.2) had a hull KE effectiveness of:
300mm KE
580mm CE
This is higher than what is reflected ingame.
Late Challenger 1’s (Mk.3 Aka. Desert Storm) were upgraded to:
350mm KE
700mm CE
So overall all Challenger 1’s underperform in terms of hull armour ingame, especially the late model Challenger 1’s, as ingame they are all 275mm KE.
I don’t really get why this hasn’t been fixed by Gaijin yet, we have plenty of evidence to support it.
With regards to turret armour, according to British estimates the T72s turret front armour is 530mm KE irl, so it’s reasonably accurate in WT.
The Challenger 1’s turret armour is also reasonably accurate, being listed as between 430 - 500mm KE depending on source.
In short, the CR1 and T72 turret armour is reasonable accurate, but all Challenger 1’s ingame underperform quite a bit in terms of hull armour dependant on variant.
