History:
On October 2, 1969, the first S-65C-3 (CH-53D) helicopters were delivered to Israel of an initial order of seven. At the time, the country was engaged in the War of Attrition, and thus the type was quickly dispatched into combat. Receiving the Hebrew name Yas’ur (Petrel), a further 35 helicopters were delivered to fulfil subsequent orders. On August 6, 1970, the first Yas’ur squadron was established. For several decades, these served as the primary cargo helicopters of the IAF, being routinely used to carry both troops and heavy equipment.
But finally, getting a rest in 2021, being replaced by the CH-53K.

Armament:
MBT Weapon Systems Division of the Israeli concern Aviation Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) has developed a long-range solid-fuel day/night anti-tank guided missile rocket ground-based, semi-active laser-guided missile. The Nimrod anti-tank guided missile, also known as the Balista, was first unveiled to the public at the 1989 Paris Air Show. Nimrod (Nemrod, Nemvrod; Hebrew: נִמְרוֹד - literally “let us rise”).
Nimrod may be installed on a variety of towed launchers, light combat vehicle launchers, helicopters, and fixed-wing aircraft. The primary helicopter launch platform for the Nimrod in the Israel Defense Forces is a modified Sikorsky CH-53 Sea Stallion helicopter. The launching vehicle or aircraft may fire up to 4 Nimrods at once from a single pack.
IAI Marketing Director Jacob Alon (Jacob Allon) told ARMADA International in Singapore that Nimrod has been in service with the IDF for “several years already” and “has combat experience” (presumably in 1982 during the Lebanese War). According to him, the first modification of the rocket was placed on an elevated ramp in the back of the jeep with a small angle of horizontal turn of plus or minus 15 degrees. The air-based version, he said, is used on “large helicopters, such as the CH-53H.”
