So we left it where we found it, but I am curious, what type of ammunition this could be? (If it’s ammunition at all.) They are from the west of Hungary.
If the topic is not allowed then I’m sorry. Where should I ask about it?
Well, first of NEVER EVER pick up or move ammunition if you don’t know what it is, if it has an explosive filler there is a real risk of it exploding when you move it. Especially something that is that large (looks like 20mm perhaps?) or larger and also old.
Well I will delete the first picture, to not give anyone else the idea
Good idea. I would also look up information on what to do and who to call depending on where you live. Most countries have procedures in place for disposing of old ammunition and/ or un exploded ordinance (UXO) and what to do if you’re a civilian who found it. You will likely be able to find a number to call for the authorities to come and investigate it.
Edit:
In most countries there is a separate number for the police that isn’t the emergency number, that is usually the one you should call.
Alright it’s done. It took a little time, but the officers were pretty nice about it.
Awesome! :D
Well done ^^
Now for your original question, it does look like an old 20mm bullet, often used by anti air guns or aircraft mounted guns ( Dozens of 20mm WWII rounds discovered in the Midlands ). Which also means that it’s not unlikely that it could have explosive filler, 20mm incendiary / high explosive were relatively common during WWII.
Take it to a EOD place and ask for the at least the casing when they are done with it.
