I know people might say “skill issue” or whatever but the FR-1 is the only plane I have difficulty using. I usually get like what 3 kills whenever I use normal prop aircrafts (I know its bad Im learning) but when it comes the the Fireball I always die and I have consumed countless videos on how to “master” the fireball but I still can’t quite get it and Im frustrated because I feel like I might’ve wasted my golden eagles. I would really appreciate tips from veterans.
I’ve particularly stuck to BnZ tactics due to the unique nature of the aircraft being mixed propulsion. Avoid the vertical fights as the fireball doesn’t have the acceleration to keep up and it does bleed speed quite a bit.
Yeah, I always find myself being a priority target and get isolated into fights with the whole enemy team due to my speed. I basically make it to the battlefield before everyone else and get forced into fights I couldn’t take. Ive also tried to use its landing flaps since its “incredibly potent” but I never seem to get the fireballs true potential and that’s a skill issue on my part so I do wanna learn more.
Landing flaps are very situational. They bleed speed and energy and while useful, if you deploy it in the wrong moment it does leave you vulnerable.
For me I tend to side climb at the start of the match. Usually 10-12 degrees since the prop and jet does bring you to altitude in a decent time while holding some speed.
I see. But the Jet engine starts to choke at 3,000 ft and higher no? Or should I just ignore it since it has a prop and keep doing boom and zoom? Whenever Im at a really high altitude and attempt to zoom down on an enemy lets say 8 km away I would always just zoom down into the ground and they get away with me only hitting their fuselage once.
I wouldn’t fully ignore it and be weary of how much energy you’ll bleed, but the jet engine is still providing some decent thrust for you in the long run. Plus the jet engine helps with sustaining speed better once the prop becomes inefficient due to drag (which can be negated by MEC IIRC, if you’re used to using those controls)
Dumping your altitude for one person as well is not an ideal choice as you’re wasting all that energy. Try targeting enemies at or near your altitude and work your way down. If you need to pick a bunch of enemies down below, focus on the aircrafts that will give you the most issues (like Yaks and BF-109s for me).
So I use it as a energy fighter and only use it as a turn fighter as a last ditch effort?
Pretty much. The jet engine weights your plane down as you get slower.
You can still shake up planes such as 109s and Yaks but you do need to be at a better advantage than them.
I’ve had a 109 pilot playing his energy and I couldn’t follow him most situations. I had to wait for him to be equal energy or less than me.
I see. Thanks so much for giving me tips and Im actually starting to get used to the Fireball! Thanks again, friend!
Additional tip, If you can manage manual engine controls, at higher speeds, start throwing your prop pitch below 50 so the prop isn’t causing too much drag going high speeds.
Alright, I’ll keep that in mind once I have gotten used to MEC
You should fly it
