That would be cool if they brought back in some way, perhaps not so that the arty ability gets taken away completely, but diminished in some way instead.

It would also give all the Self propelled artillery vehicles we now have in-game a possibility to act like counter battery.

Absolutely, a place for SPAA to spawn, and multiple batteries could be present.

When it was in, there were no markers so you were literally relying on that edge triangle setup to actually find them, even looking for the firing of them as you got closer.
