HISTORY
The Polish Armed Forces operates over 1,000 aging BWP-1 infantry fighting vehicles, which increasingly struggle to meet modern battlefield requirements. To bridge this capability gap prior to the full-scale fielding of the new BWP Borsuk, Progressive Weapon Systems presented at MSPO 2026, an upgrade concept featuring the integration of the Trakon 30 remote weapon station.
Developed by Resource Industries in cooperation with Unirobotics, the Trakon 30 was designed specifically for light armored vehicles constrained by strict weight limits. Armed with the AEI Systems Venom LR 30x113mm autocannon, the complete RWS module weighs approximately 550 kg (unloaded). This compact design allows the station to mount directly onto the BWP-1’s existing roof plate without structural hull modifications or intrusive turret basket cuts into the troop compartment.
Engagement against concrete brick walls using M789 HEDP
Armed with the AEI Systems Venom LR autocannon, the Trakon achieves high elevation angles ranging from -20° to +60°, offering effective fire support in urban environments and an anti-drone defense option. Firing dual-purpose M789 HEDP rounds, the platform can efficiently engage light armor, unarmored vehicles, and field fortifications. The system upgrades target acquisition by replacing legacy periscopes with an optoelectronic head featuring a 3rd-generation thermal camera, daylight TV channel, laser rangefinder, and video tracker. Coupled with high-speed 60°/s drives and two-plane stabilization, it grants the chassis a full fire-on-the-move capability.
