The mode is fun, the rewards are good, there are a few issues but not many.

Feedback:

  1. Playable area is good but player concentration is high. This leads to furball, 3rd partying, and not many 1v1 opportunities. Consider widening the spawn area.
  2. Returning to base is inconvenient and time consuming, especially for aircraft with low ammo capacity. Consider adding in-flight reload similar to air arcade, but with a timer that scales according to ammunition pool. Low ammo count = fast reload

I’ve been spamming the US F/A-18C Early as I find that premium vehicle + premium account get you a decent amount of SL

I never bothered to SL farm with air, i find lineups like prem 4.3 Germany are amazing for SL farming

I really enjoy the gunfight mode, especially the 8v8 team battle format, which is fantastic. Map design is excellent for this event. Below is my feedback on how it could be improved to enrich the player experience.

#1:

Make aircraft allowed to reload their guns at any time outside of the spawn zone. This would help mitigate the issue of limited ammunition, since some aircraft have as few as 120 to 200 rounds, while aircraft equipped with 20 mm Vulcans carry significantly more ammunition and can stay in combat longer, generating more kills. This gives them a noticeable gameplay advantage.

Allowing aircraft to reload weapons while in the air, similar to the reload function in air arcade battles, would reduce the need to retreat to the spawn zone just to rearm and miss out on the potential gun kills more than usual.

However, the reload time could be scaled based on ammunition capacity, with aircraft carrying smaller ammunition pools receiving faster reloads, and those with larger pools taking longer. Fuel, however, should still only be replenished in the spawn area.

#2:

The number of kills required to win a match should be increased. Raising the win condition from 20 to 30 or more would allow matches to last longer, making them more rewarding in terms of time invested. Longer time and more kills in a match = more RP and SL.

Edit: Make it 24 as a maximum if we stick to 3 respawns per player for 8v8 battles, or increase the number of respawns per person to allow a higher number for the win condition, or increase the number of players on each team to raise the win condition while keeping 3 respawns.

#3:

As I said before, this event should be made permanent. Perhaps, it could be scheduled specifically for weekends, from Friday through Sunday, with the matchmaking brackets rotating weekly. This would provide players with a variety of top-tier aircraft gameplay. Here are brackets, for example, that should rotate weekly:

  • 9.7 - 11.0
  • 11.3 - 12.0
  • 12.3 - 13.3
  • 13.7 - 14.3+

#4:

If wider matchmaking brackets are introduced, like above, the aircraft’s BR should be adjusted primarily based on flight performance rather than secondary armament when entering the queue for this event. Certain aircraft, such as the F-4F KWS LV or late-generation Harriers, suffer significant disadvantages due to their weaker flight models when matched against opponents with far superior flight models, such as Eurofighters and F-16s. Their BR should therefore be adjusted to align them more appropriately with comparable aircraft.

Overall, this event is an excellent step forward and a fresh alternative to standard Air RB battles. Please do not abandon this development once the event concludes.

9.7-11.0 would be brutal, imagine being in a Mirage vs a J7E lmao, maybe 10.7 rather than 11.0 would be better

Its definitely a good path but i feel some aircraft would need their BR’s adjusted ahem A7K lmao but its definitely a good start and id love for gaijin to keep working on this

I’m a bit torn on the weekly rotation, mainly because of the effect on the stock grind. If a bracket repeats only every four weeks, this will be felt in that the mode can only be used to stockgrind within each of them once a month, limiting the main practical advantage of the mode.

This would mean waiting ~26 days for the next chance to continue playing specific vehicles, and only 13 chances a year for a set bracket. Especially assuming life around the game this makes it really hard to use that aspect of the mode, forcing them to be scheduled like appointments.

Then again any regular event is already far better than nothing, so there’s really no grounds for me to complain. It hasn’t existed in the past at all and the game still functioned, so this just adds a new luxury and I might just be getting caught in the idea of what it could be rather than what it realistically will be.
I’d still prefer just a weekly matchmaker split into all of these brackets (like Heli PVE, also not following BRs), but for now I just hope they make it permanent.

This is the first time in multiple years that makes me want to actually play the game. Been hoping for a game mode like this ever since missiles were added. It is easily the most fun thing in the game for me and I hope this or something very similar comes into the game permanently. I beg of you, don’t pull a realistic battles enduring confrontation and never use this again please.

I have been playing war thunder since 2015 and like MANY MANY other people have been nothing but dissatisfied with the state of high tier gameplay and have largely stopped playing the game. I have played this mode for 6+ hours already and i can say on behalf of veteran players like myself, I will come back every day for a mode like this.

TLDR: POLISH THIS MODE UP AND MAKE IT PERMANENT. I WANT MORE.

How exactly does gaijin refusing to give us more than a single 2 day test event that people (me included) missed tell us anything about popularity?

More than anything it shows how reluctant gaijin is in testing TO popularity.
Possibly because they know that people would abandon toptier groundRB instantly to play TO.

Almost like players who want better modes in war thunder want to play…war thunder…

It must be hard to understand i guess.

Right, some feedback from me

Overall concept is great. Like many before said here, its breath of fresh air compared to stale missile gameplay.

One thing I would like to suggest, is to perhaps expand current bracket to 12.3 (looking at you F-16A Block 10) and possibly making another bracket (or brackets) for previous generation fighters (Phantoms, Fishbeds etc etc)

Only complaint I have right now is that event is being ran for too short
Started yesterday and it is already ending tomorrow. I only hope the event returns quickly.

I cannot stress this enough, this mode NEEDS to run for longer and over the weekend.

The general community response to this has been great and I think this mode has HUGE potential, but the fact the event is being run in the week and only for 2 days really stifles the play test as the amount of players who can play test this is far less than it would be at the weekend.

Gaijin please take note of the playerbase simply asking for the playtest to run long, specifically over the weekend.

You have a game mode here that has had a great community response so please do not mess it up.

This kind of pvp game mode, with air resupply points and gun focused combat has been asked for by players for years.

Good point, then I agree with this alternative matchmaker of yours below:

As long as this gamemode isn’t abused excessively and eventually shelved, like Air RB EC, then, yes, I’ll take anything to make this permanent and equally accessible for everyone.

As I said:

Theoretically, J-7E, along with F-5C, will likely be bumped to 11.0. However, I agree that 9.7 - 11.0 might be rough. It’s just an idea that needs to smooth out the rough edges.

Genuinely please make this gamemode a permanent option, it makes the game way more fun and varied, and makes certain unviable jets in normal gamemodes quite good

Just want to point out its 8v8 with 3 spawns per person, so the maximum number of kills is 24. Larger lobby sizes could be interesting though.

Thanks for pointing it out. I didn’t realize we are limited to three respawns, as I didn’t die too often.

Then, it should be 24 as a maximum, or increase the number of respawns per person to allow a higher number for the win condition.

This is a good chance to bring this up, why are the events so tiny and insignificantly displayed here on the side?

If the goal has been to use events to test new stuff, why not show it more, and I don’t mean show it as an image advert above where it’s now. I absolutely ignore that every damn time, it’s dumb as hell.

As much as I dislike changes, the WT UI could really use a touch up, it’s designed by the 90s standards.

Takes everything bad about gunfighting and puts it into a gamemode. Make it 1v1 or 2v2 and it would be fun

Absolute W mode
Some possible tweaks-

  1. Too crowded. A 4v4 option would be excellent. Or even 2v2 and 1v1.
  2. Too slow ammunition replenishment. Definitely good to have an unlimited ammo pool considering some aircraft have barely over 100rpg and others have nearly 1000, but 30 seconds of flying in circles in spawn isn’t ideal. Maybe consider an instant ammo reload, infinite ammo, or at least like 5 second replenishment
  3. There should be some way to repair a damaged vehicle. Could be as simple as allowing the players to leave the battle while in their spawn, and have it not count as a death towards the win points nor their respawn limit. But then they still have to pay the SL cost for a new, repaired aircraft.
  4. Consider expanding the BR to also include 12.3, for the F-18As, F-16A, F-20, and M2Ks
