You having a LoS to the plane allows you to launch your missile that might actually hit it.
Using LOAL to sling off missiles from complete cover leaves you invulnerable to AAs.
And it would also leave you without any kills.
There is a a good argument that could be made that spamming gbh39s is already a. Better aa killer than harms ever would be.
HARMs would home in on radars with you having LoS or not.
Some versions with mmW would absolutely break the game.

Harm would be strong if launched at or under 15 kilometers. As at those ranges like for KH38mt it leaves little time to react and have proper intercept paths for missiles, but again that is worse than KH38mt as you have no utility against normal targets.
And agm88bs doesn’t even have gps, which would mean you’d have to eyeball the loft, not a big deal but its something to keep in mind
how would a kh31 from min range be worse than kh38 ? it will still be much faster than kh38 ? the only disadvantage is that u can only target Radars with them ? but thats the whole point. there are different variants of kh31s from 80s, 2000s , 2010s.
No it would at best be slightly faster, kh31s should take a while to accelerate, these are missiles designed to be launched high and far. At 15 kilometers it’s likely to be quite a bit slower off the rails than kh38mt. I don’t know for the much more modern variants but as far as the older variants(the ones that will likely come to the game) this is true
pretty sure they use a normal rocket engine to propel them to high speeds then the ramjet kicks in. they burn for much longer/maintain the speed much better than kh38s.

The number you see commonly online is mach 1.8, and it’s not hard to believe the missile is stated to have speeds upwards of mach 3 rosoboronexport says so at least, it would be unconventional to say the least for the rocket booster to provide the majority off the speed in a missile that spends majority of it’s flight using a ramjet
i have never seen M 1.8 as its top speed anywhere where did u get this number from ?. it maintains speed much better than kh38. im not sure about the early variants but the later variants of kh31 significantly outranges the kh38 which has a max range of around 70km .

did u just randomly assume it accelerates to Mach 2 . even if u assume it gets to mach 2 , its only going to gain speed after that vs the kh38 which would immediately lose its speed after getting to mach 2.5 - 3. when launched against a target 15-20km away kh31 would be much faster than the kh38 in the terminal stage , they would probably have similar time to target.
On the DEV server it was incredibly broken, i was testing it and it did 7 mid-air turns and hit the target, they nerfed it hard before it went live on official servers
it wouldnt, it would be at best slightly faster, ramjets take a bit to accelerate, and 15km is approaching the distance limit for the original missiles. i didnt randomly assume anything, i just gave you the figure you see commonly online(1.8 mach) and afaik it comes from a book, feel free to disregard said figure if you dont like it but logically it just wouldnt make sense for a missile that spends majority of its flightime using a ramjet to get majority of its speed from the solid booster stage and going by the company which sells the missile max speed is around mach 3.
I just gave it other try today, the buk is utter garbage. The 9M317M missile has its own radar seeker I guess gajin forgot to make that part to work because it just does not work.
