Did it carry missiles?
Though I think the Gnat should be kept as a gunfighter

Do we have any data on the seeker of the SRAAM? I’ve heard its flare resistance was better IRL than ingame.

Also, the CAMM-ER can hit >1500m/s ingame, the statcard is not totally correct it seems (it states ~1000m/s).

not sure if it ever used SRAAM however considering the Gnat is for the most part a smaller, cheaper but slightly better hunter i see no reason why not.

There is some beautiful photos showing its payloads.

Very optimistic in my personal opinion but theres a photo indicating that it could use the firestreak

Flame might, but tbh. Im guessing that its game limitation issues. Giant red hot afterburner plume would be the hotter target than the flare and therefore it would just go for the hotter target. In game the flare is almost always the hotter target.

Also it was all-aspect in the 1960/70s Im guessing the main way it did that was just being super sensitive to heat

Ah nice. so maybe? But I think at 8.7/9.0 would be a lot healthier for the Gnat

unless its BOL where my breath is hotter

The Gnat could use Firestreaks?

Sadly we don’t seem to have the all aspect seeker modelled ingame, although the seeker is still quite good

Yeah, though again in-game vs IRL is where things get blurry

Yeah, and unlike the Red Top. I dont think it would be a smart idea for aircraft without flares as it would just result in a BR increase though I think we could argue for a slight expansion of rear-aspect lock angles instead

I cant see it ever being higher in BR than the F1 hunter. more of an intermediate between that and the Marut. If only we built the one with a reheat

I agree, full all aspect would be a bit ridiculous, but improved side aspect would be nice as it would let us utilise the missile properly

The Gnat had an incredibly high power to weight ratio, speed and rate of climb for a non afterburning jet.

  • 100 m/s climb
  • mach 0.98 top speed (~750mph)
  • 0.98 thrust/weight ratio (empty)

it would blow any other jet at 8.7 - 9.0 out the water.

Even its a full interceptor configuration, its thrust/weight would still be around 0.72.

I’d imagine it coming into the game at more like 9.3-9.7, even then I think it would be good. Throw in its good armament of two ADENs, good agility and its tiny size making it a pain to hit, it would be like a Saggitario/Ariete on crack.

i didnt realise its top speed was faster than the hunter, i was under the impression that it was roughly the same.

id certainly take two less ADENs for the extra T2W ratio

Worth a try:

Bare in mind as well, the Hunters in game I think are overperforming. Gnats apparently IRL use to slap the living hell out of the F-86s

hunters seem to be missing some drag but nothing too serious. One thing i know for certain is that the Harrier ought to be running rings around it but… we know the rest.

they kicked the hell out of sabres and migs both in training and in combat such as in pakistan

You’ll have to chat with Matrix, I think hes got docs for the Hunters. But yeah. Hunter I think have a little too much STR and the Harriers not enough

our harriers should hammer hunters and keep mig 21s at bay yet they cant even deal with a stock skyhawk
