British Weapon Systems - Technical data and discussion

The Scimitars mobility is such a disappointment. It handles like a top heavy trifle.

All they had to do is give it the mobility model of the cvrt striker but lighter and with a lower center of gravity. It should be a go cart.

yeah, I’m well aware, i think the Warrior with its Composite might unironically be more mobile than the Scimitar in 95% of senarios

Testing out what?

its a feature that’s been in the game a long time, it help you steer based on where you’re looking,
It helps give you a little bit extra mobility, i’m testing it out and putting it inside a video for side by side comparison,
image
Driver Assist On: (its not toggleable, you need to hold it)

Driver Assist Off

In that clip i didn’t touch either my A or D keys once, just used the Driver Assist function
(Ignore the engine sound, for some reason when I clip through Xbox Gamebar it’s really quiet or gone completely)

Driver Assist works for both Tracked, Wheeled and Halftrack vehicles,

its useful for maintaining speed in a wheeled vehicle through small adjustments,

It helps halftracks more than others, providing you don’t try and turn too hard

For tracked vehicles it only assists slightly in mobility, but it does help avoid oversteering and needing to correct yourself (where on something like the scimitar you would kill all your speed with how poorly it’s modelled)

TLDR; its very niche but can help at times

I never knew that even existed :D

Thank you

you’d have to do your own testing with it to see if its useful

ill post a link to my video where you can see a side to side comparison, despite it being completely unrefined

maybe with this feature we could get gaijin to turn it into Regenerative steering

Yeah, i can see it being useful for wheeled stuff, but I doubt Id use it for tracked stuff and I rarely play wheeled stuff. Just good its a keybind and not an annoying buried setting toggle like a few other things are

and for the TLDR of it all

Looks basically like regen steering, the lack of the full stop on the right or left track when turning is huge. may have to check it out in the chally.

Although, from the looks of it it seems just mask the underlying problem which is were still using left and right braking to turn modern tanks that would never use it other than a handbrake turn or drift.

Its not quite regen steering, theres no power on the track you’re turning into

I would’ve tested a chally 2 if i had any of them without a stock engine

Though it probably wouldn’t be too hard for gaijin to morph this into regen steering, but it is gaijin so probably not ever going to get regen steering

expanded the table and sorted between the most and least time saved

Very nice work, ty for getting the data

I have also tried the driver assist mode on the Challenger 2, but I found that due to the lack of regenerative steering the tank still lost a ton of speed when turning even slightly.

If you turn even a bit, the game considers it as braking the inside track, so you slow down despite applying throttle. If we had proper regen steering, then driver assist mode would be great.

exactly, might think about trying to punch through something like that in suggestions when i get the time / feel like it

yeah, thats the issue with it, for small adjustments and sharp turns normal steering is better, its best for medium sized turns

i mean it clearly helps mobility but with how little it helps (On average around 7-9% faster) its not too useful

i think the effectiveness of the steering depends on what gear and how hard you turn is, cause you’d likely want the extra torque of the lower gear, to help maintain the speed across the single powered track, but i’ll need to do more testing

if i’m being honest it’ll be nice to see a dataminer or someone to jump into the files and see how exactly it works,

it’d help understanding it much easier rather than trying to reverse engineer it

tested yet a few more

Edit: Tested even more now, ill just link to the Doc due to the length of the list, was definitely not fuelled by Boredom with a Hint of curiosity on my end with this list

what happened with the T14 lol?

Would you be able to do the cvrt striker? Would be much appreciated!

shall do!

I’d expect it to be similar to the Scimitar but things can suprise

Test 1:
Time to Complete Driving Normally: 1:36
Time to Complete Driver Assist: 1:31
Time Saved: 5 Seconds

Test 2:
Time to Complete Driving Normally: 1:37
Time to Complete Driver Assist: 1:32
Time Saved: 5 Seconds

Not a clue why its so different to the Scimitar
Striker seems to lack a lot of torque when at speed doing the radius curves

EDIT: because i can’t send 3 consecutive posts

once again doing more testing shows that the Sd.Kfz 251 series really benefit from it,

ill save sending the whole list again cause it now has 68 vehicles plotted

I edited it into this post due to the 3 consecutive post things, but ive added a lot more vehicles to the Tally;
Link to the Spreadsheet Here: Driver's assist testing - Google Documenten

I’ll also be working on a seperated version

rather than the whole course, it just be either the 2 sharp 90’s and the large sweeping curves,
to help avoid errors that appear when a vehicle is unfairly terrible at one but good at the other, and to see where this feature fits properly

If anyone wants me to test a specific vehicle ill do it providing I can use it
(why did I need to plot 80 vehicles damnit, then feel the need to triple the dataset)
