Can anyone explain what this is?

Most likely electronic. Seems connected to the laser reciver.

what is it? a dart out of Starstreak?

Looks like it

Yes, from this video, he shows the dart at 1:33

I’ll take it over here because the french are always really cranky

It’s biggest issue is the fact it’s lock range should be 2-5x greater than it currently is depending on aspect and whether or not the target is on AB or not.

It’s a missile better suited for short to medium range and even if your radar is telling you the target is within range, maybe even in the LSZ, you don’t have a lock and so can’t fire. Flame has a nearly 3 year old bug report for getting the 9M it’s correct lock ranges. This bug is part of the reason why I hated playing the Gripen and a big part why I rarely ever use them on most aircraft like the FA2 and Typhoon. Most of the time, you just can’t

I’ve made a bug report regarding the Starstreaks penetration.

This is less so about the specific penetration, rather that the penetration is calculated incorrectly.

It should not be 30mm at all ranges, it should change based on the darts velocity.

Thats carrier values…
What darts do no one knows, as from game perspecive they are not treated as a seperate round.

The carrier has 20.2mm of HE penetration, yes it does seem that 30mm is the “kinetic” penetration for the carrier.

However, the carrier still has the darts on the end, so its penetration should be calculated identically to the darts. If the carrier is going 500m/s, the darts are going 500m/s, so even then the carrier penetration values do not make sense.

The carrier should be disregarded from the calculation and the pen should be calculated based on the darts penetration values based on their velocity.

This iirc was done because the darts werent doing any damage, and then we proved why its because of the fuze sensitivity…

My goal is for them to hopefully recalculate the penetration values and improve them

The starstreak is such a weird weapon though I doubt they will manage to make it accurate

its 50mm at all ranges after dart separation apparently, according to gzabis spreadsheet

using my best estimations for the frustrum parts (3) and (4) based on estimating the dimensions by comparing measurements relative to the 22mm diameter.

it should have just shy of 170mm max pen. which seems very high for what it is,

then paring that with HE filler it would actually be quite strong for AT.

though i don’t know if Lanz-Odermatt is fully applicable for the starstreak pen

Starstreak darts are far from solid, so I imagine it is barely applicable at all. There is a massive difference between solid rod of metal and a thin walled tube with some electronics inside.

ah so it’d just end up crumpling,

so no Stormer with pen greater than the short 88

Unless it gets LMM

we both know gaijin is never going to do that because it might hazard being strong

No, it might look like tungsten, but it’s actually made from Her Majesty Finest Tea Leaves. Not only are they the strongest material on earth, they wont crumble under things like kinetic impact.

This is not even remotely valid, stat streak at a basic level has a hardened cap to penetrate armoured helicopters and aircraft, roughly 20-30mm of RHa. And then detonate inside. Gaijin is actually generous giving us 50mm of penetration that doesn’t fall off. I imagine it will get changed with the fuse fix.

Hey @Smin1080p_WT sorry to bother, I know it’s only been a week or so but have the dev’s had a chance to investigate the starstreak fuze report?:
https://community.gaijin.net/issues/p/warthunder/i/pJMiqQTRJyXC

It’s the primary reason starstreak doesn’t work in game, is it the sort of thing that could come in a weekly? Thanks

Hey. The report is currently still open. Everything for the next minor has already been locked in.
