British F-4 Phantom II : Balance, Air and Ground Ordinances and Radar

SRAAM and those wing mounted fuel pods would be a great addition I think. AGM-12s could also be handy.

@AlvisWisla

Unfortunately I do semi-agree. You are right, the Tornado F3 is probably in a holding pattern waiting for AMRAAM and hopefully better IR missiles. That being said, I still think the FGR2/FG1 in their current state, especially pre-decompression are a little high at 11.3. I do think 11.0 would be a more appropriate place for them currently.

(also have no idea why the F4J(UK) has a SB rating of 11.3 but the FGR2/FG1 are at 10.7. That also needs to be fixed ASAP)

I’d prefer the AGM-12s and Fuel Pods the most funny enough 😂

An additional change/fix for the FGR2/FG1 and the F4J(UK) I’d like to see is more bomb loadout configurations. Its 2 per wing pylon and 3 in the middle. Would be good if you could choose 1 or 2 on each wing pylon. Currently you can only overkill bases in SB (if you dump all bombs onto a base), So that kind of customisaiton would be really good. (not the only jet that has that kinda annoying limitation)

Yeah, the single in-line one is kinda annoying. Taking fuel tanks and gun pod would be a really good combo in SB.

(But I think I’d leave the centre one as an option though. but maybe 1 or the other, the more choices the better in my opinion)

Would need investigating, but its also possible the Phantoms could carry Napalm. They are currently lacking from a few British Jets.

It could also carry the Fuel Pods under the AIM-9 rails (ignore the low quality lol).

I doubt but wouldn’t be surprised if it could, especially the F-4J (UK) since it’s basically a F-4J with British avionics. I also found a image of the F-4K carrying the B755 HEAT Cluster Bombs which would be a interesting future addition.

I know the Buc and Sea-Vixen could. But as Flame explained the other day. Britain held onto the right to use it, but didnt necessarily equip it as a matter of course. or something akin to that.

Cluster bombs are definetly an addition that needs to be added to the game. Would love those on the Harrier, Jag and Tornado

Should the F-4J UK use an ALR-45 like the other naval F-4s? Also should it use the pylon countermeasures?

My understanding that USN Phantoms didn’t use the pylon dispensers because of the carrier. I would assume land bound F-4J UKs would have used the other setup.

While the radar set in game is named incorrectly (there is a outstanding report to fix the text for these) all the British Phantoms have the correct radar performance.

Yeah, I’m aware of that but the correct name would be nice.

Can we talk a bit about the APG-59 currently? PDV HDN search? for real? I havent touched the aircraft for ages but it used to have the SRC PD HDN mode as well as the option for velocity search… To my understanding Velocity Search is supposed to help you see something over very long distances… Not for engagement purposes.

You are wrong, it never had a FMICW (PD HDN) mode. It’s always been PDV. There was a brief period in the game when PD radar just arrived but those had nonsense performance and did not reflect the real radar.

For PDV to work you need positive closure rates for the most part. That works regardless of range.

My apologies, I just strongly remember PD search giving range information instead of velocity. As you would on an F14 for example. But as I said I havent touched the plane for ages and only used it to grind the 14A. Anyways, with some further research, I was able to find (non primary) sources that state that the AWG-10 did indeed only have PDV search and they primarily used Pulse instead for anything other than engaging basically. Having said all that, its baffling how an aircraft that served up to the early 90’s, was using such a dated radar compared to its competition. There were different versions like the AWG-10A and B but I could not find any data currently on these changes. In any case, my mind is put to rest. If I find anything worth noting in regards to the later AWG-10 versions, I ll post it here.

As the Typhoon Eurofighter is coming to the game, can we add finally 9Ls to British Phantoms mainly talking about famous F-4J(n)UK to make this vehicle actually appealing and not so regretting by anybody who got it.

At 12.0 BR it shouldn’t ruin an balance and it will actually have something to shine about because right now it’s on same BR as American Phantoms that are just better it has no upgraded engines it has no better flare flaps, It has worse SARH missile it’s just much worse than counterparts on it’s BR.

It shouldn’t take place as it is right now, it’s not small lacking in plane, it’s just huge gap in plane performance compared to other 12.0 BR planes, this could bring an Joy to it. And we should remember that Pack Mirage exists with Magic 2s on same BR or F-4S those are not comparable in how good their armament is compared to this plane.

Either add 9Ls and keep it at 12.0 or move it down to 11.7, also give it the US LD bombs. I hate the British ones, and they limit the payload.

Dosen’t like Viggen have the Swedish variant of Skyflashes and also PD radar on 11.3 BR?

It’s seem a bit unfair to F-4J UK to be on 12.0 while being literally Worse than the viggen.
I have high hopes that they remind their self and do an change fast about British Fellas.

Phantom FG.1 - Nose Landing Gear(NLG) should not extend

Phantom FG.1/FGR.2 - Missing AoA/stall warning tones

The NLG issue is probably an issue that there is only 1 3D model for the landing gear extended. And it is still possible to use for carrier take offs so if we could only have 1, I would rather it be in the extended position

I assume animation is just missing because NLG will be normal position when gears up.
