“No got eyes, how can see? No can see, how can save? No can save, how can chop chop?”
I think it is almost criminal that we have so many eye decals in this game, yet no Chinese Eyes for British mains to paint on their beloved armored tea kettles! These eyes are a long-standing tradition within the Royal Tank Regiment, having been painted on British tanks for a little over a century!
The tradition of painting eyes on the armor of the Royal Tank Regiment started when, in 1917, a Mr. Eu Tong Sen OBE, the Chinese member of the Federal Council in Malaya, presented the British Government with a Mark V Tank, and asked them how the tank could see if it did not have eyes? The British complied with his request, and a Landship had eyes painted on the front side corners of the hull so that it could “see.” The Chinese Eye was officially adopted as the Battalion sign by the 4th Battalion RTC in May 1923. In commemoration of this generous gift, it became the practice of 4 RTR to paint the ‘Chinese Eyes’ on all of the Regiments’ fighting vehicles, including Chieftains, Warriors, Scimitars, Challengers, and so forth.
I think that it would be most agreeable to my fellow British mains that this would be a wonderful addition to decals that we can add to our tanks, and offers yet another small touch of history for those of us who enjoy making our tanks as accurate to life as possible!
