clearly we are more talented than the American mains
Yeah, Britannia is not allowed to rule the waves
time to play which mad design of the lions would be fair and balanced in game
Hmmm…
Gaijin: “According to these sekrit documents, they only had 8” guns, so we will be adding it at 9.0"
But lets face, we wont be getting them for a while, if ever. Vanguard and maybe a early war refit of KGV is probably the best we will have for a while
Ages ago, a lot of ships have them, 90% of our cruisers should have them, hood, repulse, renown should have but don’t
Yep, so many of which were added after naval radars were introduced and thus should have been added to the game with their radar
Warspite if she had her armor modeled right honestly would be a BITCH to sink. Even by the Yamato.
Also if they WERE to add the Yamato and shit, they FLAT OUT will have to break their paper vehicle rule and add the Lion class.
Nothing else the British have would stand up to that thing, Especially not Vanguard.
Vanguard was a hunk of crap thrown together by the British.
Not a properly developed battleship, its internal layout was total hell, and its armor was garbage. it would NOT stand up to any kind of beating from even a WW1 Era battleship.
A Lion would, VERY well, it would probably even out perform a Iowa class in practice, especially with the new Mk 16inch guns that were developed form them specifically.
They are laid down, so don’t need to break rule to add
Especially Vanguard is the only hope against Yamato, as she has both the highest penetration and flattest trajectory, which is most important against Yamato’s thick inclined armor
It’s internal layout is similar to those of KGV and Lion, and armor is second thickest next to Lion and KGV
Especially the new 16inch gun is problem, as it fires light shell with slow speed. Actually I’m worried that in war thunder where falling angle is twice as in real life, Lion’s 16’’ gun’s practical penetration would be same to those of Nelson’s.
Lion’s guns were leagues stronger than the guns on the Nelsons in testing.
They fired Heavier shells than the Nelsons, at higher velocities.
The Lion’s guns would have fired a 2,375 pound AP projectile, compared to the Nelsons 2,000 pound projectiles.
They also were loaded with a heavier bursting charge, giving them more punch.
As for Vanguards guns? Nah, I get she had the super charges and such. But those could only be used with special Light weight Ap rounds, that were like 400 pounds lighter than the standard 15inch AP. reducing their punch quite a bit, the only reason it had those shells and charges was to increase the range, not the penetrating power.
As for Armor? The Belt its self was similar between the 3 yes, But Lion still had the edge, at a 14.7-15inch belt, Vanguard had a 14inch belt. the deck armor was the same, but the Lion had thicker barbets, bulkheads, and turrets.
The Lion was LEAGUES ahead of the bastardization that was the Vanguard.
No it didn’t. While Nelson’s muzzle velocity is 788 m/s, Lion’s one is 747 m/s. Much slower
You have reference? Never heard Royal Navy develop special AP round for supercharge. All I’ve known is supercharge is just with 6crh AP.
By only 40m/s
The American’s traded nearly 100m/s when they moved to the Super Heavy AP rounds on the North Carolina and South Dakota class Battleships, and only gained it back when they went to the longer barrel 16inch guns that were mounted on the Iowa’s.
And yet those guns, WITH that much less velocity, were STILL more powerful with those shells, than the Colorado classes which had longer barrels, and still used the older Lighter shells.
In Naval battles Weight of a shell is ALOT more important than its flat out velocity.
As for the 15inch thing i WAS wrong. But it still doesn’t matter, its only a 1,800 pound shell, that was even with the Super charges, it was only about 10 m/s faster than the Lion’s guns (atleast with AP, the 15inch guns with super charges and HE rounds could hit around 800m/s)
Not in war thunder with such slow shell velocity, in pure penetration calculation, difference is about 30 mm, problem is, falling angle is almost double, meaning that the real thickness that Lion’s shell has to pen excels those of Nelson’s shell have to. Thats why I saids practical penetration.
AP and HE has same weight. AP with supercharge is also with 804 m/s. AP with 757 m/s is with standard charge.
After the ballistic update, the differences are within single %.
That’s much better news. So at least Lion’s shell would have better penetration than Nelson, though I’m skeptical it would be better than Vanguard’s.
I just found out that HMS Vanguard in WTM also uses Renown’s turret, which is terrible news
now it rather seems like miracle that HMS Barham uses its own unique 15’’ Mark I modelling, compared to other Royal Navy 15’'s.
Most of British 15’’ Mark I turret is just copy paste from HMS Renown. How disappointing.
Makes me worry also about their modelling of the improved turret armour, its only 13" so we need it to be done right as that’s less than even Hood.
I mean Archangelsk still has its Mark I/N mounts which NONE of the R class EVER RECIVED
