Brimstone 2

literaly only GNSS was hit from that, IOG was always horrendous in the first place

Didnt think it was but also wasnt 100% sure they didnt either

and that 5m arent even enough to matter for KH38 series

Yeah… Imo, it was a nerf exclusively for GBU-39s

It was a nerf for everything short of a 1 tonne bomb. Reason it didn’t impact kh38 was the GNSS guided ML was fired at soft targets, so a near miss is acceptable. For soft targets such as AAs, you would still have success with smaller gps bombs, including 39s provided a couple were dropped. Nearest I can figure is the deviation was introduced to limit people throwing them at ground targets in air for a very fast way to grind.

At the time of the change, even kab 500s were not reliable at killing anything heavier than a t55. It did seem mainly directed at stopping direct hits for any weapon, which resulted in the heavier payloads of Russian bombs at least doing something compared to nothing. E.g. a track or a barrel.

Yeah, this is what I mean though.

Most GPS bombs will probably kill most targets if they land within 5m. But a GBU-39… 1 probably wouldnt kill anything unless you were really lucky.

So it means that instead of being able to spam them at multiple targets, you needed to send a few at each target

I feel like it was reasonable given the volume that could be carried. Still screwed my Gripen over, but I do see the logic. Looking at a particular American platform.

Though I would note, a near miss on a soft target did generally take out targeting in my experience with them at the time of the change. Rarely a kill, but often something got nicked on AAs. However, drop a few (2-3) and it was an almost guaranteed kill.

Eh…

I think it was the wrong approach.

it affected every bomb, in every gamemode when they usually claim “historical accuracy” and I think they found a worse case scenario GPS bomb and just set it for that for everything.

SP should exist for a reason. If the quantity is what needed nerfing, then add a way to vary SP cost based upon number taken.

Its annoying in ASB now that GPS guided bombs can miss the stationary destroyer below me for no apparent reason (I use to drop a 2-3 depending on the bomb at multiple parts of the ship to quickly kill it)

I’m not defending the action. It was incredibly annoying. Just that I see the logic behind it for a quick solution that would go over the head of the profitable playerbases and reduce the backlash for “Targeting American equipment in this Russian game”

Would be really nice if we had that across the board. I can get behind the cost of a full kh38 payload, but if you’re able to take them you’re obligated to, as it costs the same to take 1-2 to help with AA whilst carrying a primarily air to air payload.

Yeah, used to be able to justify using UPAB 1500s on the carriers, which is now not doable.

In my opinion we need SPEAR 3 to compete with the literal cruise missile status of KH-38MT and AASM.

Yeah, we do. As well as the spammable GPS nature of GBU-39

no it doesnt, it has just over half the drift of hellfires

So still orders of magnitude more drift than it should

same with hellfires and now JAGM
