Braunschweig LF-1 V2 Zaunkönig (Panzefaust 100)

History.

The Braunschweig LF-1 (Langsames Flugzeug) Zaunkönig is a small single-seater short take-off and landing aircraft designed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hermann Winter (designer of the Fieseler Fi 156 Storch) and a team of his students at the Technical University of Brunswick, Germany.

Given the limited funds available for the design of this aircraft made for no specific purpose, the result was a small aircraft similar to the Fi 156. In mid-1940, Winter and his students began construction work on the aircraft at their base university and within about six months the first prototype, serial number V1, came out of the workshop for its first flights. The maiden flight took place at the end of 1940, but two years later, on 11 November 1942, the only prototype was lost in an accident during flight tests.
Due to the interest shown by the German authorities in the aircraft as a possible maritime surveillance aircraft and trainer for novice pilots, a second prototype of the aircraft was built in 1943, the V2, which received the civil registration D-YBAR. Various tests were conducted and in 1945, given the desperate situation in Germany, it was slightly modified with the addition of a Panzerfaust 100 in order to use it as an improvised ground attack aircraft.
After the end of the conflict, the aircraft was confiscated by the British authorities and, after further tests, was transferred to the Deutsches Museum branch in Schleissheim.

Armaments and propulsion.

The aircraft was armed with a single Panzerfaust 100 attached to the upper part of the wing with a single throwable round. The weapon mounted a single anti-tank grenade weighing 6.8 kg and capable of penetrating 200 mm of armour.
As motorisation, the aircraft was powered by a four-cylinder Zündapp 9-092 engine with a maximum power output of 50 hp, which could propel the aircraft (under normal conditions) up to a maximum speed of 141 km/h.

+1 Finally a rival to the grasshopper

+1, I did not know there was another aircraft that mounted Panzerfaust. Thought the Bücker Bü 181 C-3 Bestmann was the only one equipped with them.

I feel like this would only be good as a joke aircraft, like the Po-2. Nevertheless, +1 as an event vehicle.

ngl the po-2 might actually be more viable then this

Yeah. One single Panzerfaust really isn’t enough. At least the other one carries four, which could net you a few kills.
