HISTORY
In 2012 Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace established their office in Alexandria, Virginia in the United States. The reason for the Norwegian Kongsberg Company establishing office and later an facility in USA were the possibility of being awarded multi year contracts for missiles and eventual other solutions with the remote turret systems, which Kongsberg is a world leading supplier of and various missiles such as the integration and development of Joint Strike Missiles/Naval Strike Missiles.
At the annual AUSA - Association of the United States Army event in 2014, we saw an M2A2 Bradley with an Kongsberg Protector Remote Turret RT40 (MCT-30 as it was called earlier before a name change) integrated with the 30x173mm XM813 30mm Chain Gun.
From what i have understood while researching this vehicle, this is an cooperation between the US Army Research Institute and Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, the vehicle underwent an demonstration with live firing in late December 2014 at Fort Benning in USA.
Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace are the word leading supplier of weapon stations and a number of innovative solutions, with both remote controlled weapon stations and turret, missiles and integrated weapon systems. Its a Norwegian company, and is a continuation of the Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk established in 1814. The RT40 turret on this vehicle is the “Middle class turret”, with the lighter RT20 and the heavier RT60 turret being the other ones in the family.
The US Army Research Institute is an subordinate command of the American army and was from around 2003 given the purpose and tasks of creating, delivering and integrating various solutions and combinations for the US army. They are located at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland.
IN GAME
In the game this could be a cool vehicle either as a regular researchable vehicle or as an event vehicle. Its a Bradley, the mobility is ok, and with the remote controlled 30mm turret its firepower are quite good, with both lock on air targeting with lead indicator and the ability to use airburst ammunition, it could be a great all around light tank.
