We know the BoZ was Tornado bread and butter with 1200 gigachaff and some miniscule inconsistential amount of also gigaflare. It also appears to be used by attacker variant of Viggen (And austrian Mk.2 Draken?).
With how massive the amount of carried CM and it’s almost inconsequential drag, why don’t future aircraft like Gripen, Typhoon and Rafale equip their plane with dedicated BOZ pylon? it appears to fix a lot of the lack of chaff issue and flare can always be provided by BOL pods that can be fixed on the rail.
Chaff isn’t a cure to everything, that’s probably why. Internal space in aviation is just too expensive to make decisions based on “just in case”. I mean space occupied by 1000 chaffs probably better used for decoys of some sort, they’re a new “gigachaff”. Btw, haven’t heard in a while about decoys with parachutes that are just dropped from a plane.
A version of the BOZ (BOZ103) was used by France on its Mirage IV and Jaguar A (missing payload in game that should be added)
As for why it is not used more, it is probably because chaffs are not so useful against modern detection systems and jammers are much more effective, so the armies prefer to have a system that may cost them more but which protects their aircraft better.
BOL provides a similar function - plus it doesn’t have much in the way of a drag penalty since it it built into pylons. Also easier IIRC to retrofit to most legacy hardpoints, which might not the case for the large BoZ system.
Bear in mind that IRL the BOL CMs are not the nerfed versions we have in War Thunder. Combined with the amount of ECM/EW capability integrated into most modern stuff, towed decoys, etc. I suspect there wouldn’t be much that the BoZ pod could do that isn’t already catered for by one or two other systems.
There have been several ideas of this style, if I’m not mistaken there must be a French bomb designed to be dropped with a bell trajectory and which drops chaff throughout its flight, it’s frankly funny but not very useful
