BOV M-16 Miloš (NOVA)

History and Description

BOV M-16 Miloš armed with NOVA 3rd gen. long-range ATGMs is based on a single-piece hull and 4x4 chassis, fully designed, developed, and manufactured in Serbia by Yugoimport. It was first publicly shown at the “Partner 2021” military fair in Belgrade. The MRAP has a crew of 4 - driver, commander, gunner, and machine gunner. At the front of the vehicle are four large forward-opening doors with bulletproof windows in the upper part. On each side of the troop compartment are 2 rectangular bulletproof windows with a firing port in the lower part. Infantrymen enter and leave Miloš via a power-operated ramp at the rear of the hull that opens downwards. This door is also equipped with one bulletproof window and a firing port. The hull is made of steel armor that offers ballistic protection of level 3 STANAG 4569 on the front, level 2 STANAG 4569 on the sides and rear part of the vehicle, and has mine blast protection of level 2a/2b STANAG 4569. Miloš is powered by a Cummins ISB 300 diesel engine developing 300 hp at 2,500 rpm coupled to an Allison 3500SP automatic transmission with 6 forward and 1 reverse gear. The vehicle has independent suspension and hydraulic shock absorbers. It can reach 110 km/h on road surfaces and is able to climb forward slopes up to 60%, and side slopes of 30%. It has a fording depth capability of 1 meter without preparation. It can cross trenches up to 0,9 meters and has a turning radius of 9 meters. The NOVA 145 mm anti-tank guided missile has a 6.4 kg shaped charge and an 8 km range. It is claimed to be able to penetrate at least 1 meter of RHA with ERA. The guidance system is based on a video/infrared homing head, with the missile connected to the launcher by a radio link. After launch the missile flies on a ballistic trajectory to the target area. Then, using a radio link, the image is transmitted from the homing head to the ground control station, where the operator selects and locks on the target. Finally, the missile tracks and hits the target on its own. Both top-attack and direct-attack modes are available. Systems consist of a missile in a container, a launching unit, and a ground control station with a radio link. Secondary armament is the M20 RCWS with a 12.7 mm NSV machine gun that can fire 700 rounds per minute.
