Currently the boosters while important to progressions don’t always feel as fun to use as they could. An example of this is the classic 500% booster moment where you activate what SHOULD be a very rewarding booster and promptly get sniped from spawn and then CAS’d on your subsequent spawns.
This ends up leading some players to overstress and overthink using their boosters, I’ve got friends who have pretty bad loss aversion and they tend to put off using their boosters because they worry about wasting them, to the point where they let them expire or recycle them instead of letting the stress reduce the fun they have in matches.
After speaking to them and what it would take for them to use their boosters instead one idea we discussed was an alternate mode of activating them, instead of activate them for a fixed number of matches you instead activate them for a fixed amount of time and a cap on the total rewards you can claim from it. An example of this would be a 10% SL booster. The numbers themselves are purely as an example.
Match mode
10% booster for 10 Matches. You have 48 hours to play these matches
Fixed mode
10% booster for 4 hours until you have earned 5000 SL at which point the boosters end.
I do believe that the “Match mode” should on average give more rewards than fixed mode as it’s a riskier way of activating them which rewards skilled players who don’t mind the gamble. Gaijin knows what the boosters give on average and should be able to balance them accordingly.
SL boosters are quite simple since SL gains are somewhat even across the game. RP boosters would probably need to have different BR brackets count differently with lower BRs draining them faster to balance them across all BRs. An example of that might be as follows, again all numbers are purely for demonstration.
15% RP booster
Match Mode
15% booster for 10 matches. You have 48 hours to play these matches.
Fixed Mode
15% booster for 4 hours until you have maxed out the booster to 100%
Rank I - 1% = 10 RP (Total of 1.000 RP in a booster used only on Rank 1 vehicles)
Rank VIII - 1% = 100 RP (Total of 10.000 RP in a booster used only on Rank 8 vehicles)
I do believe that this would be a more enjoyable way of using boosters for a decent portion of the playerbase. I propose this as an alternate activation mode rather than a rework as I do believe that the current form of boosters do have a place in the game and should remain as a riskier and more rewarding albeit less consistent way of boosting earnings.
This is instead intended to supplement that system for players who are more prone to loss aversion or don’t want to tryhard as much but would rather chill knowing that they’ll still get decent usage out of their boosters.
