Bombs That Actually Hit The Target

I’m not the big CAS guy so I have a noob question. On several occasions I have dropped a bomb and gotten a visual report of my bomb landing directly on top of my target. The turret top of the engine deck etc. and nothing happens. My bomb doesn’t appear to go off and no damage is done. Recently, an enemy plane did the same to me and I died a quite violent death. So what’s happening here and how can I kill the enemy when I actually hit them?

This is the only post where light mode is actually useful. Jokes apart, do you have the replay links for further and detailed replies?

What bomb fuse are you using?

I don’t. I was prompted to ask only after having been on the receiving end of this.

Whatever the default is. What fuse should I be using?

Assault fuse is usually a safe bet. I’ve had direct hits with GBUs that had a 1.5 second delay, land on a roof before and explode and do no damage due to the MG on the roof soaking all the damage. It can be a bit buggy. I tend to find if they explode on impact, that never happens

Assault fuse only is worth if you’re throwing ordnances at a certain distance, if the weapon lands before the said time it will stay deactived for a few more seconds. The best bet, if not dropping bombs at low altitude is putting 0,0-second fuse, evading this issue with bombs exploding either causing only external or no damage.
