Bomber damage models are overtuned

Yes Im aware, but in general all bombs have been nerfed."!

If you were doing this in test flight, then regardless of the ammo you choose it becomes default while in the mission.

The first 2 bombers you attacked only died due to a bug in test flight where the crew just bails out entirely after X amount of damage.
Apart from the last bomber that actually lost it’s wing you tossed over 100 rounds of ADENs into them and nothing really happened to their structure.

Came up with this dogshit take on your own TIGER_TANK_1?

2 of those bombs do look odd yeah.

You can bug report it here: Gaijin.net // Issues (just search a bit first so that you don’t report something that is already reported and known about)

A guide on how to report bugs can be found here: ([Navigation] Technical Knowledge Base | War Thunder Wiki)

Also walleyes have been doing zero damage even on direct hits. I dropped it straight on a t-90 cheek and it did zilch. Writing it off as a one time glitch or lag, I tried again on a leopard 2a7 and dinged it right on the right cheek. The hit analysis show the bomb making direct contact and then making the armor segment expand to a huge size with the explosion, but nothing was damaged at all. I don’t know what’s happening but I’m sad

US Air Force Study No. 193
The Development of German Aircraft Armament to 1945.

“Four to five hits of 30mm projectiles in a relatively small area were necessary to bring down a four-engine bomber.”

Note that 30mm was 4x as effective as 20mm…so by same standard around 16-20 rounds of 20mm to bring down a 4 engine bomber.

The whole development of the 50mm gun was to be able to kill bombers reliably in a single shot.

The current dev server damage model performs many orders of magnitude beyond that.

What a fight, huh? Would it be possible to buff the 30mm cannons and other larger-caliber guns so that it’s easier to damage bombers? I’m not talking about increasing their penetration, but perhaps increasing the damage area upon impact?

Not that it would completely solve things, since the BF-109 collided directly with a B-17, if I’m not mistaken, hitting it around the tail, and the B-17 still managed to return to base with some difficulty.

I just think that if a BF-109 directly colliding with a bomber didn’t make it “go down,” then 30mm cannons and smaller-caliber guns probably wouldn’t be able to “tear its wings off” or detonate the bombs inside either.

Especially when there’s more HE ammunition than AP in the selected belt for the battle. Maybe I just want to see bombers become relevant again… But I think the current situation on the DEV is fine.

This is proof that all it takes to take down the new bomber damage models is, you guessed it, to do exactly what the developers suggested by aiming at critical parts.

I am fine with that, but it just takes too long to do so, to the point where you will be crippled or dead within a few seconds. If these changes are added as is, bombers will be massively uptiered due to many of them being very hard to kill, which just makes them even worse.

bro it is not like they will turn around and start winning dogfights with any plane at or even below their BR
bombers before were genuinely impossible to play and enjoy, now they are at least usable. and maybe them becoming the center of matches is a good thing, where more people would focus on intercepting bombers instead of just going into blind dogfights every match.

Actually you just showcased a bug that happens in Test Flight where the crew bails out after a random amount of damage giving you the Aircraft Destroyed message. You did pretty much nothing to it’s structure and that makes no sense.

They are not usable, they are invincible in dev. You can missile them, throw a jet at them that it will still absorb all the damage.

Think you guys should learn a bit from this

There are other times where I tested when I wasn’t recording, where I completely ripped the wings off/set them on fire enough to completely destroy every control surface and engine in a similar amount of time it took to take them down in the video

And I also don’t think that’s a bug, I think its when I take enough control surfaces off/damage the engines to the point where it would not be able to fly much further that makes them bail out

Missile them? Oh you saw that 6 aim 54 video, Ok heres my video disproving the aim 54 video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91aIDvmOlow

The reason a b17 tanked 6 aim 54s is cause it never actually hit them and was going for the center of the formation and blowing up in the center, something an f14d prem player wouldn’t understand

It was stated in the WT dev server stream.

The issue is that there are certain HE/AP rounds that will infact do some damage, however the rest is just absorbed like nothing happened. That is still an issue.

MK108 for example should take around 3-5 hits to down a B17, however if you pick Night Belts over Stealth it already won’t do any damage while the difference between them is like 10g.

Footage of AN/M3’s taking over 800 rounds to down it:

Clearly Gaijin does not know what they’re doing at all.

Yeah, you could say “that’s just precisely placed ones with luck”. Go for it.

It doesnt even tank 1, do you have trouble parsing information?

Counter arguement: April 17 ·

It was hit from the inside… and then nearly destroyed by its own side.
The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress known as “Snake Hips” suffered a flak explosion inside its bomb bay—then was struck again by bombs falling from its own formation during a 1944 mission.
Here’s the paradox: a bomber already torn open, leaking fuel, and barely controllable somehow stayed in the air—thanks in part to the very damage that should have destroyed it.
And against all logic, it made it home… leaving one chilling question—how much punishment can a machine (and its crew) survive before it simply shouldn’t?
