Bomber damage models are overtuned

Source? Trust me bro

yup thats true

Saying this when Statshark says “Below Average Player” is something lmao

Bro vibe checking a biplane got me cackling but yeah that has to be a bug.

It should not be able to do that.

Alright yeah that’s 100% a bug, funny as hell since this bug also happened back in the day with fighters wing cutting bombers.

If 30mm shells explode mid air and destroy every vehicule in a 30km radius. If it was real. Would you add it in the game to make it realistic ? No because it’s a bad game mechanic. Sure bombers have problems. Sure they’re more fragile than IRL but it’s the same with fighters. P-47s are known to be taking a beating without dying yet ingame a singular .50cal burst can take it out. Should we make every plane more tanky ? No, we had it for a while and it was AWFUL. The bomber problem is that they have a place in some sort of Air RB EC (Enduring Confrontation), maybe in ground if it wasn’t as fast paced but AirRB is a Pvp mode so it’s normal that they can’t fit their role and that you can’t do much with them. And it’s a minority in every game which means buffing them or modifing them should not be detrimental to fighter gameplay which, in this case, it is.

When the wing part gets fully damaged (black) does the spar start taking a majority of damage, in which the wing finally rips off?

I would assume so but someone would have to test it.

Part 2: After extensive testing I can confirm engine fires do not cause nearly enough damage to the spars they’re closest/attached to.

shell performance against aircraft is weird even irl, its not like a tank fight where somewhat stationary targets attack each other without significant distance changes, in a dogfight scenario the bullet pursues a target and between the moment of the attack and collision of the projectile there is a considerable distance and loss of momentum, fighter planes were effective against bomb planes not simply due to the munition itself but more due to the fact that interceptors were faster and could close the distance and attack from just the right distance to make them a piece of cheese, there are records of bomb planes heavily damaged returning to base with hundreds of holes in the chasis

I actually like how the bombers are in the dev server, but I have a question since I haven’t really tested myself. Do fighters to break apart after a small Burst? If so I believe fighter and every other aircraft should get the same treatment. Imagine how much more interesting dogfights would be if you could actually take hits, it would be more realistic too since realism is what’s make war thunder special, too bad not that many people realize that anymore.

I dont remember where it is, but I remember seeing a report, from tactics of germany intercepting american heavy bombers, and according to it, it was like:

Structural kill: 100-400 rounds of 20mm, 40-80 rounds of 30mm
Mission kill (structural damage to engines), 70-140 rounds of 20mm, 14-28 rounds of 30mm
Crew kill, 40-80 rounds of 20mm, 10-30 rounds of 30mm.

So, a lot more then it was pre-rework, but less then it is post rework; i need to go find the original source again though.

It’s more like 4-5 hits from 30mm to bring down a bomber.

It was last A2A kills with guns at the moment but, you can see that a single burst from the M61 Vulcan renders the target uncontrollable, causing it to crash.

And… gun kills with DEFA 30mm against Su-7, MiG-19, MiG-21.

Thats not supported by any historical footage or reports im aware of, 4-5 is what would be expected for a heavy fighter-bomber or light twin engine bomber; even your included image doesn’t have enough context information to say what vehicle its talking about so.

Historical footage will support whatever conclusion you want to make since there are many different examples of gun camera footage.

In a lot of footage it is not possible to tell caliber and often times you will see most shells are missing. Post-war testing of mineshells etc provides at least a reasonable datapoint; but once again different countries reached different conclusions.

For the record I used a biplane as the example because it’s the only fighter in the test flight for low teir,
I didn’t want to use high teir because then I’d have to chase down a mig15

But it still applies for every other aircraft, I survived direct hitting a plane carcass while in the Lincoln and that’s what brought my attention to ramming speed

Since they use contact fuses rather than proxy fuses, do the aim-4 falcons manage to one hit kill the b17 like they used to back in the 50’s (with a smaller explosive mass too), or does the damage reduction also apply to them?

Those are all jets they are far more likely to break apart from structural damage due to the high speeds, also jet fuel I believe is more explosive.
I seen videos of WW2 fighters get riddled with bullets and not fall apart. Most common way a fighter get downed is the engine getting destroyed, second is an uncontrolled fire, third is pilot getting shot, forth is hydraulic or control surfaces get destroyed, and the least common almost rare is structural damage like the wings or tail getting shot off. For some reason war thunder is kind of reverse

An air belt typically takes HE rounds. On the dev stream, they mention that those are now much less effective and that AP rounds are better as they will actually get to the engine. Speaking of engine, your not shooting them

I mean shoot a fighter can likely survive at least 2 shots to the wing from a 30mm irl
