- Bofors 40mm
- Bushmaster 30mm
- abstain
In your opinion, of these 2 legendary cannons which takes the cake?
Consider IRL performance as Gaijin mutilated the Bushmaster and the Bofors kinda

Putting my opinion as a reply to not influence, but considering the history of the Bofors and its combat history it is really really good.
Not like the Bushmaster is bad, that is pure propaganda imo but the Bofors offers great balance of PPR (price per round), fire rate, penetration values, reliability and variety.
The Bushmaster is really good, but can struggle heavily against armor (I know it is anti infantry and light armor, not the heavy armor, which is usually the target of the ATGMs the chassis carries) while the Bofors can stand for itself a little better.
Both are better and it really comes down to personal preference, but one has to win.
I hope for a day that gaijin looks at data from actual testing from the countries who made the cannons, instead of russia’s “data”
By Gaijin’s logic fire rate is the most important attribute, it’s not like high fire rate causes so many issues IRL such as instability, high rate of failure, horrible economy, blooming and many more.
Gaijin should just add fire rate control already, instead of a fixed fire rate for cannons designed for variable fire rate
If talking about IRL I think bushmaster have better accuracy but ofc less rate of fire. Bofors APFSDS have little more pennetration but not really noticable.
The main point its BOFORS have HE-VT ammo that helps to take out drones and low flying aircrafts, and the increased HE filler plus the programable option makes it better against infantry. While bushmaster only has a new developed HE with programable fuze for infantry, but not useful against drones and aircrafts.
So in resume, bofors better.
if it is, then why is the bushmaster so inaccurate? it already has a really slow fire rate and a pretty beefy barrel (in terms of the Bradley with the thick taper) especially when compared to the BMP 30mm barrels
I mean in terms of raw penetration true, but the PPD should be considered, the 40mm are much larger and if I remember correctly when the US tested the Bofors vs the Bushmaster (for the Bradley I’m pretty sure, or some other IFV project) it had a worth mention damage advantage.
I am going to be honest, I have no clue. the pride of the Bushmaster is its accuracy so it is purely a Gaijin choice.
Mind you when the BMPT added Gaijin fully believed a duel 2A42 system would be laser accurate, when IRL a single 2A42, such as on the BMP-2, has accuracy issues.
yeah I guess I should have added that I meant in game. that was off topic, sorry
Correction: it was for the AC-130
Well talking about IRL, the IFVs main gun are focused for light armor and infantry, heavy armor its not really a worth thing considering when you are equiped also with ATGMs for that. Also with a bushmaster or a bofors, your results shooting at a russian MBT will be the same.
In my opinion, increasing the caliber of an IFV its solving a non existing problem (ahem XM30). Sure for gameplay purpouses its great, but for IRL its just a logistic and economy unnecessary caos.
Just make sure to have good accuracy and airburst munitions for a good IFV.
Fair enough, when it comes to armor a better question would be comparing TOWs or Spikes (I know they are extremely different but i mean general ATGM or AT-FAF-M)
Option 3. Rarden.
Cheap, deadshot accurate, most powerful 30mm for decades and about as simplistic as it gets for a self-loading gun.
Also gimped by gaijin, should be a lot more accurate and have an option to fire bursts quicker than 80rpm
Variable fire mode will benefit mainly NATO nations so i doubt gaijin will add it any time soon
It wouldnt really improve the rarden as well… It holds two clips of three shells but its shown its worth on gun SPAA like the Stormer AD and LAV AD for ammo conservation and differing targets, would be an appreciated addition to bushmaster/bofors/denel guns
Just looking at them from a historical perspective, the 40mm Bofors. The 40mm Bofors was made in what, 1935? It’s been in the millitary for 90 or so years and still one of the most classic and used naval guns in the world. From a legacy perspective as well, the 40mm Bofors has influenced a lot of other technology within the military foundation, with the L/70 and various other guns as well. I’d argue it’s one of the most influential weapons made in a long time.
from a gameplay perspective the 40mm bofors is everywhere too. Ranging from 1.7 naval boats to borked Swedish AA and Strf9040s. The fact it’s found at almost every BR says something about it no?
Where is the Bushmaster 35mm?
