Background History
In March 1981, the U.S. Air Force (USAF) initiated the Enhanced Tactical Fighter program, later rebranded as the Dual-Role Fighter (DRF) competition, to replace the F-111 with an aircraft capable of deep air interdiction without needing additional fighter or jamming support. General Dynamics entered the F-16XL, while McDonnell Douglas submitted the F-15E. The Panavia Tornado was also considered but lacked a competitive air-superiority capability and was not U.S.-built, so it was ultimately disregarded.
The DRF evaluation, led by Brigadier General Ronald W. Yates, took place from 1981 to April 1983. The F-15E demonstrator, modified from an existing F-15, underwent more than 200 flights, demonstrating various weapons configurations and performance at takeoff weights exceeding 75,000 pounds. The F-16XL, with its advanced delta wing design, showed significant performance potential, but on 24 February 1984, the F-15E was selected due to its lower projected development costs, future growth potential, and twin-engine redundancy, with an expected order of around 400 aircraft.
Construction of the first F-15Es began in July 1985. The first prototype flew on 11 December 1986, equipped with the new avionics suite and partially redesigned fuselage. By April 1988, the first production F-15E was delivered.
The F-15SG, originally designated as the F-15T, is a specialized variant of the F-15 ordered by the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) after a competitive evaluation. On 6 September 2005, it was selected over the Dassault Rafale as Singapore’s preferred option. The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress of a proposed Foreign Military Sale, which included advanced air-to-air and air-to-ground weaponry, radar, and communication systems.
Singapore placed an initial order for 12 F-15SGs in December 2005, followed by an additional eight in 2007 and four more soon after. The first F-15SG was introduced on 3 November 2008, with deliveries starting in 2009. By September 2013, all 24 aircraft were operational. Further orders expanded the fleet, with eight more aircraft ordered in both 2010 and 2014, culminating in a total of 40 F-15SGs by 2018. RSAF pilots are trained on the F-15SG through a joint USAF-RSAF squadron, the 428th Fighter Squadron, based at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho.
Armament of the F-15SG
For air combat, up to eight AIM-120C-5/7 AMRAAM and up to four AIM-9X (depending on the configuration) are available, which can also be used with a JHMCS (similar to the F-16C Block 50 in-game) on a target can be locked in dogfights. In addition to EW suit improvements, the AN/APG-63(V)3 AESA radar is also installed. Countermeasure amount has been increased, similar to the Ra’am, also increased by mounting four additional CM modules in the two tails, in addition to the MAWS. The F-15SG’s offensive armament includes a six-barreled M61A2 20mm Gatling with 501 rounds.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to find official or viable lists of the F-15SG’s armament, so the armament list is based on what can be found online (e.g. visually, from displays, etc).
