The BMT72 was a modified T72 made to carry dismounts in a compartment between the power pack and fighting compartment. It’s engine has been changed to the 6TD-2 1200 horsepower engine. It also received a new automatic transmission, most likely meaning a a better reverse speed, like that seen on the T84. The BMT72-120 had received the turret of the T72-120, housing the KBM2 gun made to fire the NATO standard 120x570 millimeter cartridge. The ready rack held 22 rounds with 20 stowed in the hull. The ready rack ammunition was also protected by blowout panels. The autoloader could manage a 8-10 RPM, or 7.5-6 seconds. Most likely, the BMT72-120 is equipped with the NIZH-1M heavy explosive reactive armor, which allegedly is 20% more effective than Kontakt-5. Overall, this would make a great addition to the game if Gaijin adds Ukraine as an independent tech tree, which is how I hope they add Ukraine if done in a large scale.
A glorious rank indeed, however I feel the PT-91s are already superior and even older than this, given they receive a superior reverse rate, reload, and DM53 to boot. It’d be interested to see how this could fare against the latest of the PT-91s.
From what I can tell, PT-91s still use the 125, so they can’t use DM53. And both can reverse at about the same speed, so I think the BMT72-120 is a bit better. Maybe the BMT72-120 has better electronics and internal systems, but in both ammunition and reverse speed, the BMT72-120 is on par, or better. Not sure on reload though.
My apologies, I meant to say the PT-16, the later and improved variant of the 91.
What about the PT-17?
PT-16 definitely looks more capable. Both can use high end NATO ammo, but I doubt the BMT72-120 ever got some of the more high end rounds. And the PT-16 also probably has better electronics, like it’s LWS. But then again, I do think that the BMT72-120 is still quite capable, and it is quite funny how they just looked at a T72 and said, “Lets make it an IFV” and then also slapped the T72-120 turret on it.
Potato potato :P
