I took two screenshots of protection maps, one with L23A1 and one with L27 on Challenger 2 TES, overlayed them, made one semitransparent and the other one different saturation, to highlight areas which L27 can pen but L26A1 cant.
As much as I agree with the fact that higher penning shell has more spall and more reliably goes through the weakspots, you can not look me in the eye and tell me theres practical difference between L27 and L23A1 in pennable area :D
Side shots sure, those usually work fine (well, they dont always kill, but they’ll pen) , but if its angled and im shooting for corner… I’ve had very very bad success with L23/L23A1 doing that.
Also with that LFP slot… again. I’ve had more than a few times where its only killed the driver, barely.
So whilst yes, I would probably aim for roughly the same spot, the spots are definetly harder to hit and less likely to actually kill, and when you’ve got a BMPT gunning you down, that does make quite a difference. especially as you cant just gun breach them instead
once again, my point I was trying to get across (and apparently failing) was that since neither L23A1 nor L27 can slice through the UFP, they have to go for the same weakspots; im not downplaying the fact that higher penning shell will have easier time penning said weakspots.
hence moving terminator to higher BR does not inherently fix its issues, because even at top tier, there isnt a gun with enough pen to lolpen it.
ergo any fix must be related to its modelling first and foremost, and eliminating the nonsensical decisions such as the exposed portion of the belts being external ammo.
These areas marked with an X almost never result in significant damage during the match, but in situations of quick encounters or with a reaction time of 3 to 4 seconds, they can cause the “NON-PEN” that we are used to seeing in areas that should be easily penetrated, but in the game they have the opposite effect, either because of a machine gun in the area or an object.
We see this happen a lot with the Tigers and Churchill turrets.
Now, on the front sides of the BMPT, it’s difficult to get a 100% clean shot in those areas, since when moving, you may end up hitting that one pixel that removes almost 70% of your ammunition’s firepower before reaching the desired location.
The BMPT is a monster, and anyone who defends it is just a madman wanting to use his $70 to massacre an entire BR out of pure selfishness.
i would be surprised if it didnt. (then again its the Chally 2 were talking about).
Nevertheless the scenario will play out the same no matter if its Challenger DS, Leopard 2A4 or Leopard 2A7V. BMPT will come barreling down around the corner and the game becomes a quick time event - can the player click the BMPTs weakspots before his barrel gets taken out?
Thats the core of the issue. Sure, higher BR opponents will make this “window of opportunity” larger but its a bandaid fix.
Part of the “issue” is that your test doesn’t have the upgraded ERA kit. I noticed when I was checking my DM53 rounds, I could not do a proper pen test because I do not have the TT BMPT ground out yet (working on it currently). I only really notice the crazy bouncing darts when it has the upgraded ERA blocks on the sides.
Oh I am not saying your test is bad lol, my point is that the reality is even worse 😂
I am not sure if the other guy you were chatting with saw my post about my DM53 rounds bouncing. I have first hand experience with the magic bouncing darts against the BMPT’s: BMPT/72 Should not be 10.3 - #2571 by SilentTracker
I think the core of this discussion is what happens after said tank fires at the BMPT.
With the better penning shells, it will probably kill. With the lower penning shells, it might just kill the driver and it keeps on going and eventually kills you or disables you before you can fire again
