Bmp2-md double standard

Hope one day we get access to technology to counter HEAT seeking air-to-ground missiles. Nakidka and Barracuda could be a nice kickstart for this technology in the Swedish Strv 122 and the Russian T-90M.

Tbf the trade off for thermals is being less armored and heavier
So unlike the BMP-2D which can withstand 50 cal to the turret, you are also more heavy thus slowing you down, additionally both vehicles are limited to one belt of APDS, id say if it got APFSDS it would be fine moving it up since without another weapon only having one belt can be fairly problematic. Id say as a fair trade either give it APFSDS and send it to 9.0 or give it a extra belt of APDS and see hownit differs from the Soviet BMP-2D. Again unlike the 2D the MD can not fight against most targets because you have to wait until you get the sides and thats if you don’t shell shatter and they slightly turn and 50 cal your turret. Honestly ill take better armor and mobility with a missile over thermals. Because them being the same BR is silly.

Or (this will be somewhat controversial) removing the BMP-2D’s turret armor unless you have the 2D armor package equipped. That should bring both vehicles to around the same weight making it so that while the 2D is still better armored at least the difference in performance would still be closer. Regardless anyone thats actually properly looked at the vehicles can tell the 2MD is blatantly worse, i don’t think it should go down but i dont think the better vehicle should sit at the same BR unless they are closer in performance.

Spoiler

All export model BMP-2’s never included the add on turret armor so thats why theres a difference. In game the 2D armor is set up as a single fused piece.

The BMP-2D doesn’t have addon armor on the turret, only the sides.

Did you actually ever check cause i dont mean to be rude but yes it does. You can see its a second plate bolted on over the top, in game its modeled as a singular plate. This is because the 2D armor was standard for the soviet models while export models did not include the add on armor.

If you actually look you can see where the armor plating is and if you looked at my inages above you’d see that they have more armor than on the 2MD.

2MD only has the original 16mm armor before the 2D added a standard 4mm plate around the turret.

My suggestion was to remove the armor that irl was included with the 2D until the player added the 2D armor as a modification. So both vehicles would be left with similar turret armor and mobility that way they match each other more closely. Regardless the 2MD is still the worse model.

That’s not a 2nd plate, that’s the Nadboi anti-neutron radiation cladding.

Its just borated polyethylene fiber sheets, purely visual ingame, has no impact on armor.

And in real life, it made almost zero benefit to armor, purely for absorbing neutron radiation.

Its literally 20mm on the BMP-2 and 16mm on the 2MD so its not just a visual thing

Has nothing to do with the Nadboi cladding, its the armor profile of the turret. Soviet BMP-2’s were always 20mm on the turret cheeks, long before Nadboi was ever introduced. And the BMP-2D’s in Afghanistan never had Nadboi fitted because there was no need for neutron radiation shielding in Afghanistan.

There was either a source to show exported BMP-2’s were slightly less at 16mm, or its a mistake and the BMP-2MD should be 20mm as well.

Either way, the Nadboi cladding is purely visual. Same with the T-72A, it has visual anti-radiation cladding when you research the 1983 modification, but the cladding doesn’t actually add any protection.

Im just repeating what the mod who closed my bug report stated when i asked, they dont have to explain anything to me but that was the answer, others also explained the same thing to me so until i am presented evidence otherwise i cant really accept this.
