As the title says, after I’ve built my PC just a few weeks ago (~2 weeks ago), I’ve been facing issues with War Thunder and War Thunder only.
For some context, at first I’ve been getting WHEA errors (CPU ones to be more specific), and as such RMA’d and got a replacement CPU, since I’ve read that’s a common issue with Ryzen 5000 series - these errors, however, only happened with War Thunder. Other games such as Valorant, Apex Legends and Rocket League never crashed or caused any sorts of issues. After getting the replacement CPU, I’ve been experiencing the same crashes again. So far I got two WHEA errors, and one WATCHDOG error (GPU related), which again, I cannot replicate in any other game except for War Thunder, which leads me to believe it’s a War Thunder specific issue with AMD (drivers? I’d assume).
Since I haven’t managed to find a fix and as such I am posting here in the hopes that there might be someone with similar issues or even a fix, as this is getting rather annoying and makes the game unplayable.
How the game crashes:
The crashes are random, sometimes I can play the game without issues till I stop playing, sometimes it crashes the very first battle, and sometimes after 5-6 battles. I mainly play Air RB jets (if that helps). All the game does is give me a black screen with no display output, while the audio continues playing (both the game and Spotify in the background), and the PC does not reboot until I do it manually (this is the WATCHDOG specific crash). The WHEA crash is slightly different in the sense that the computer, upon crashing on a black screen, attempts to reboot itself (noticeable by the RGB and fans turning off and on again, followed by the Windows boot chime), but doesn’t show any display out until I, again, force shut down the PC.
What I have attempted:
As I said, I have already RMA’d the CPU and got a replacement, and the GPU is also new.
Reinstalled Windows 3 times (both Windows 10 and 11)
I updated the UEFI/BIOS for the motherboard
I reinstalled and updated the AMD chipset drivers
I reinstalled and updated the AMD drivers (for the GPU)
I reinstalled the game and deleted the cache folder, and verified files
I stress-tested the PC for 20 minutes without any crashing (AIDA64 Extreme) and ran 3DMark
I tested the RAM and came back without any errors/issues
I also want to add that both the GPU and CPU are not overheating and that there is sufficient air flow in the PC itself (CPU goes max ~73,5C while the GPU goes up to ~71C while playing War Thunder), and that the PSU is more than powerful enough to handle both components (as seen by countless other games and the AIDA64 Extreme stress test (both CPU and GPU at the same time) and 3DMark benchmarks, where no crashes were observed. In AMD drivers, the global experience was always set to “Default”, with AMD SmartAccess Memory (SAM) enabled.
PC specifications:
OS: Windows 11 Pro 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3880)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
GPU: AMD RX 6800 - Driver version 24.7.1
RAM: 2x 32GB DDR4
PSU: 850W Be Quiet! Straight Power 11
MB: Gigabyte B550M DS3H (Rev. 1.7) - UEFI version FEb
If any further details are needed, I am happy to provide those if it helps solve the issue!
Thanks everyone o7
