After recent patches, my game has a terrible look that I find it very difficult to describe. (Thankfully, I have screenshots!) This is extremely frustrating, and nothing I change seems to help it at all.
Normally I used to play with very high graphical settings with SSAA mixed with another anti-aliasing setting and it looked great and super sharp. After the major recent update, I had to change it to DLSS and I settled on a setting that I liked. (Basically max sharpness+Quality+DLSS). But I started War Thunder recently and the graphics have this horrible hyper-saturated look to them.
It looks almost as it would if it was not using the proper resolution, but it is, according to the settings. Nothing I change fixes this issue. I even fully re-installed the game today, and it’s still there.
This is what I’m seeing, and my settings. Zoom in anywhere into the environment in these images and you can see the ultra-saturated colors and strange glow around the tracers.

I agree, since this update came out the only reason I’ve been online is to find a graphical setting that I like, unfortunately none of them suit me, I tried to return to dx11 to how my previous settings were but it just looks bad. Especially those trees that look super blurry when they fall, they make my head hurt.
For me FSR is the one that looks the best, but from time to time this comes up.
You probably maxed out sharpness before the update.
Sometimes the tanks look like potatos
This isn’t related to sharpness. Altering it doesn’t change the strange appearance.
Looks like HDR, check your PostFX settings.
I’ve never enabled that, and my game has never looked so weird, in the 2,490 hours Steam says I’ve played it. Where is it? I don’t see it.
Here are all my settings:

What I’m trying to communicate is that I have always played with maximum sharpness and it has never looked so awful. This has never been an issue before. I forget exactly what anti-aliasing method I used, but I was able to use it with SSAA(x4), and it looked fantastic. Images were very sharp and I got decent performance too.
Since the “Firebirds” major update, I could not combine these two, so I’ve had to use a lesser anti-aliasing method, and maximum sharpness and quality to get the best I could out of it and it looked OKAY.
This is what it looked like the same day of the Firebirds update. This is DLSS, max sharpness. Look at the coloration and the sharpness of distant objects. Notice that the shadows are a more realistic color as well. Notice that the tracers have none of that blown-out effects:

This is how it used to look with my old settings:

And this is now. I lowered image sharpness fully, and the issue is still present, but hidden better. Specifically look at the coloration very closely. You can see the quality is much worse.

It’s like there’s color filtering that blows all the colors out. It reminds me of an old CRT TV with bad adjustments to color strength.
seems SSAA X4 doesn’t work also if you active it , you don’t see any difference between before and then
Along with unexpected drops in FPS, I also see low quality textures on other aircraft.

Mine does seem to work, but only if I use a specific anti-aliasing type. I used to always have SSAA on and it looked beautiful, but now for some reason if I use it I get very low FPS in tank fps sights.
Interesting, and unfortunate. I wonder if it’s a kind of “LOD” system, to save memory by using the lower quality skins on other players’ craft? Should at least be an option.
I remember such a bug with textures a few years ago when the game had memory leaks.
The patch today seems to have fixed the performance issues I was having with my usual settings, so I suppose I can consider this matter resolved for my issues at least.
EDIT: I spoke to soon. :(
Using an anti-aliasing system with SSAA still seems to tank my FPS specifically when looking through a tank scope for some reason. I think this should be opened as a new issue specifically.
The same thing is going on now, almost 2 months for me.
Best update ever.
I stopped using the in-game sharpness settings inside the Post-FX settings to offset the DLS blur; now I lower all in-game sharpness to zero and use the NVIDIA Sharpen+ filter instead and I’m happier with that. Maybe worth trying your GPU Filters/Post-FX settings instead of WarThunder’s.
One quirk of using NVIDIA filters: You might lose them whenever there is a GPU driver update. If you find a specific customization that you like and isn’t easy to remember, write it down or save somewhere.

One may wonder if the spaghetti code will once become unmanageable and the game will brake completely.
Very sad to have the game ruined, worked very nicely during the summer.
Now we have disgusting graphics, stutters, tanks sinking into the ground when looked from a plane, etc.
But the update was definitely worth for the glitter (motion blur, mud, etc)…
Game should be rolled back 3-5 months, because this is a joke how it performs now.
