Bismarck's armour scheme might not be as OP as expected

I believe her RoF will make her potent enough against Hood to be balanced, she will also posses better secondaries and better guns. That’s my personal opinion we will have to see in practise.

Though I’d suggest Hood may be better in a straight fight due to her module layout. 7.7 may prove to be all thats necessary.

Also remember Stras is at 7.3. You might think Bismarck is bad but Stras is worse.

I’d start at 8.0 and then if needbe reduce the BR to 7.7, no lower than that though. Same approach as Scharn but with 7.7 as her starting point.

We could do with H-39, H-41 may also be acceptable so long as its historically implemented, would also open doors to Littorio UP.41 and Alsace (though Alsace is much trickier in that regard).

Yep just don’t grind it. Let Soyuz, Iowa and Yamato duke it out themselves. I’d recommend this to all 38cm BB, which are about to be thrown into the upcoming super BB meta. One shouldn’t support this way off balancing. The three super BBs shouldn’t have been part of this update. Would have been better to let the 38cm BBs some breathing space and bring the super ones one or two patches later.

I completely agree with you here. What would’ve been better is to add Vanguard, Roma, Richelieu, Bismarck as they have done, and then for the other nations, add North Carolina perhaps South Dakota maybe both for the US with worse guns than Iowa and slightly worse protection and Nagato 1945 for Japan for AA good reload mid belt armour but strong barrettes . Nagato may have handily still been the best of the bunch anyway. Soviets would just have to miss out here but enjoy the decompression on their already more perfectly good tree until a later point where it would be possible to add Iowa, Yamato, Sovetsky, H39/41(41 is fully paper tho), Littorio UP.41(again paper), Alsace(not even finished but just duplicate Richelieu underneath) and Lion and G3.

Well, at least Roma has better chance than Vanguard and Bismarck as it can get better armour, better penetration and better reload.

Those three… won’t change much things imo. They all using existing guns in game or equivalent of it. Better would be French 45 cm gun battleship design(though this will be very old design) and N3(Or something with nine 18’’ gun)

Also, do note that Yamato won’t fit into monster line along with Soyuz and Iowa. It is most easy to beat among those three.

I somehow expected that. Yamato vs. Soyuz is pretty onesided in favor of Soyuz.

Well, even Richelieu would beat Yamato.

It’s interesting just how MUCH worse Bismarck’s armor is compared to Scharnhorst…

This is deeply disappointing.

Turns out Gneisenau is a better Bismarck than Bismarck herself xD

Yet, 2 steps below in BR.

I am convinced, at this point, Bismarck could very well be 7.7. Just like Gneisenau; sacrificing armor in exchange for 2 more guns.

Or maybe 8.0, considering Mutsu is 7.7.

Why is anyone even considering BR reductions? Naval finally got some decompression, Gaijin finally showed they’re willing to expand the BR range for naval, now is the time to consider only BR increases for overpowerforming ships so that those below them have room to breathe rather than undoing what little progress has finally been made!

Mutsu is similar to Bismarck imho. The question is why Bismarck wasn’t released along with these BBs. Mutsu is ingame since ages. Why did Gajin waited that long and is introducing Bismarck along with these super BBs? These overshadow all competition by a large margin.

Just a rethorical question, but armor seems very bad, AA seems very insufficient … its too late for her.

Scharn/Gneis in their late war configuration also have better AA than Bis imho. Prove me wrong, but there’s not much in favor of the Bismarck. Just one turret more. The upgunned Gneis could be indeed better, ingame.

Maybe Gajin devs fell for the myth and simply just realizing now how thin her amor and how unfavorable the citadel angles are. According to test server armor viewer footage everyone around her BR can just punch through into the mags, even angled.

where is my tirpitz better be a tech tree

Armor is bad against 8.7, but not that bad against 7.0 ships when Mutsu appeared. We don’t have Rodney/Colorado even at that time, and it was when Scharnhorst was beast.

Cuz the ship sucks and shouldnt be as high as it is?

Gajin probably released the ships in the wrong order. Maybe Bismarck should have been introduced before Scharnhorst in her 1943 config. It also would have made sense if you consider the RL situation. Bismarck just sunk one BC and damaged a BB. While Scharn + Gneis sunk countless ships and took part in many naval operations. This indicates these were just better designs. Also the Gneisenau magazine detonation at Deutsche Werke dockyard in Kiel showed how sturdy the Scharnhost class was. The ship remained fully seaworthy. The turret was gone and the bow was burned internally. But still, other ships would have been gone entirely, like Hood, Roma, Arizona and so on.

Yep, I always thought Bismarck was more of a 1945 Nagato or North Carolina counterpart; and that, to counter Soyuz, Iowa or Yamato, H-39 was warranted… which apparently doesn’t have much better armor, but at least would have better firepower!

I hope H-39 eventually comes. If Soyuz could, there should be no issue at all with H-39.

Then argue for Yamato, Soyuz and the rest to go higher rather than Bismarck going lower. Same effect for your Bismarck but the early BBs will not have to suffer playing against it.

As always, Bismarck will be OP at first in terms of firepower and armor. Once most players have researched it and those who planned to buy it with Golden Eagles do so — we’ll get a nerf, and it’ll be crushed by the usual 1:0 kill/death ratio rule. I also suspect that in a year, Bismarck will go down in a single burst from some 1980s-era boat armed with ATGMs — just like it happens with heavy tanks at 7.7 BR.

ATGMs will do bugger all to most Destroyers, let alone cruisers or battlecruisers.

If you actually want to deal meaningful damage to a large fleet asset with modern weapons you want either a large number of advanced AsHMs, guided bombs, modern heavyweight torpedoes (exclusively submarine launched) or a mixture of those three. Even then, only the bombs and torpedoes really pose a significant threat to a well armored battleship. A large number of AsHMs are pure HE or SAP-HE, with a focus on dealing massive damage to unarmored modern fleet assets and not penetration into heavily armored legacy designs.

This german persecution complex is hilarious in a naval context considering Scharnhorst has been absolutely overpowered for 2.5 years since its release 3.5 years ago, and even now after many nerfs is still well above average for its BR…

yeah thats why most people agree that Bismarck, Vanguard, Richelieu and Roma should have been added earlier. The current complaint is that none of these 4 (probably) stand a chance against Iowa, Yamato and Madeupsky Soyuz
