Biesnovat SK-2

VVS SSSR

Background

Spoiler

The aircraft featured a metallic framework with a rivet positioned at the rear, while canvas was exclusively utilized for the covering of the ailerons and rudders. The aircraft was powered by a standard M-105 engine, which was paired with a variable pitch propeller designated VISh-52.

The cockpit canopy adhered to the conventional design and included an emergency release mechanism. Additionally, the oil cooler was relocated to the front lower section of the fuselage, and the engine intake pipes were situated at the wing’s root.

The insights gained from the development of the SK-2, particularly regarding the materials utilized for aerial testing, were later incorporated into the design of fighter aircraft. This development coincided with an increase in engine power, which also resulted in a heightened specific load on the wings.

Pilot feedback regarding the aircraft indicates "The aircraft demonstrates adequate positive stability in both longitudinal and directional aspects, however, its lateral stability is nearly neutral. The aircraft maintains a firm presence in the air and is easily maneuverable.

In terms of planning and landing, the approach is conducted at a speed of 240 km/h, as lower speeds can lead to an uncomfortable landing experience. Visibility during landing is satisfactory, and the aircraft is equipped with guards that facilitate go-arounds and operations in various flight modes. When the flaps are deployed, the aircraft exhibits increased stability, causing the nose to lower and resulting in a steeper descent trajectory.

Landing the aircraft is straightforward and enjoyable, though it necessitates a precise approach to the runway. The landing gear’s cushioning system functions effectively, and the roll-out after landing, even without braking, remains stable, allowing for easy directional control."

No production of the proposed armed variant would ever go through, and it is presumed that the aircraft was scrapped.
