Best strat for grinding nuclear thunder? both nations

title is self explanatory, whats the best strat for grinding thsi event?

use whatever tactic to get 250 SP

Spawn with a nuke.

skirt around the edges of the map to avoid the bulk of the SPAA and players

Go for large concentration of AI vehicles (like the convoys) or Airfields (especially the AF that is being used by most of the enemy team as you’ll get a load of kills too)

Use CCRP to throw your nukes.

Easy token in about 30 minutes

Sounds good. Sorry for asking, but Im kinda lazy, how do i know when to pull up when using CCRP?

Unfortunately, there isn’t any official way to know, as the game doesnt have any proper way to do lofting. So you just have to eyeball it and guestimate. but 10km ish might be a reasonable starting figure from the top of my head

The ccrp strat is best, if you fly the mig-23mld with a nuke you can trow it very far and the US spaa is easy to deal with so you can just start climbing right after the front line, that is if you intend to hit the nearest clusters of ground targets. Remember that it rips at 1470kph IAS

With the mld I like to spawn with ± 15min of fuel and I just trow nukes and get back ASAP. You can’t have a faster nuke spam rate than with the mig-23.

You can do the same with the F-4E, it’s considerably slower but you can also bring a larger nuke after the 2nd escalation for airfields or to get some big clusters, plus you keep the full AA missile loadout, which is nice.

To farm for the bomber its best to just focus on air kills I think, but you won’t be helping your team as much compared to removing the enemy AA for your own team to have an easier time farming and even easily nuke the middle front base early-mid game.

It really depends on if you have certain vehicles or not, and what you mean by “grinding.”

Please keep in mind that this is all my opinion and nothing is objective.

If you’re going into this with just the default aircraft they give you (A-10A, A-6E, A-7E, F-4E, SU-25T, MiG-23 MLD, and SU-24) then your best bet is probably just trying to catch people who aren’t paying attention, or taking out the AI convoys and other isolated units. This is good for both SL and spawn points grinding, in my opinion. But keep in mind, the default aircraft they give you will not be as good for certain tasks or roles as other aircraft one may be able to take.

If you do have certain aircraft (F-4S/J, MiG-29, F-15A, A-10C to name a few) then you have a few more stronger options.

If you’re queueing for the lower BR bracket, which is 10.3 - 12.0, then having the F-4S or J is an absolute must, as the helmet mounted sight for your IR and radar missiles is absolutely fantastic, coupled with a good BR for the F model Sparrow missile. The A-10C is simply just an upgrade in just about every way over the A-10A they provide you, with better IR missiles, Maverick ATGMs, guided bombs, and also a helmet mounted sight like the F-4S and J. For these aircraft, you’re going to be better off committing to either an anti-air role or close air support role, trying to not do both at the same time because the chaos of Nuclear Thunder can easily overwhelm someone, and before you know it you die to an S-300, BUK, Patriot or HAWK system.

If you’re queueing for the higher BR bracket, which is 12.3 - 13.0, then taking the F-15A for the US and the MiG-29 for Russia is highly recommended. The Mig-29 has a helmet mounted sight, like the Phantoms mentioned previously, and the R-73 high-off-boresight capable missiles which are excellent in dogfighting compared to the AIM-9 variants you’ll come across, and also comes with the R27ER/T missiles, which are arguably the best semi-active radar missile in the game (the R27ET is the R version but with an IR seeker head instead of radar-guided). The F-15A has four late model Sparrow radar missiles, and four AIM-9M IR guided missiles. Both of these are very capable when applied in the right situation.

Both of these jets are much better off being pure air dominance fighters, and unfortunately, using CAS at this BR bracket is almost a death wish, at least from my experience. Unless you take CAS on a fighter such as these, which hinders the aircraft’s performance, there really aren’t many aircraft that can do CAS as effectively (and frankly, stress free) as ones you’d take into the lower BR bracket.

Now all that said, unfortunately the way people have adapted to this mode is to hold W straight at the enemy, get a kill and then die immediately, repeating this until they get a nuke, where they then go and bomb an airfield, and then rinse and repeat. A lot of people are ignoring the AI units entirely, and also ignoring the new ARMs, which I’m not a fan of entirely but eh, it’s a game, dumb stuff is gonna happen.

TL;DR, eight times out of ten, your best “strat for grinding nuclear thunder” will be PVP-ing, both for grinding SL and spawn points to get a B-52 or TU-95.

Hope this helps (sorry for the wall of text lol)!

For Russia, the Mig 23 is really good and the R-24Rs are almost a guaranteed kill in a head on. So take headons, get 2 free kills each time, and then use the R-60Ms to pick off unaware targets. I normally try go for the 2500 sp nuke as Russia. For the US, I prefer using the smaller nuke since the F-4E isn’t a great plane, just spam the 250sp nukes on ground targets
